Today I didn’t do very much. I wanted to take it easy after having a migraine Saturday. I had the fun tasks of cleaning my apartment, doing laundry and watching TV. What a fun filled day!
John’s Wedding
I went to John’s wedding yesterday. It was a nice informal party. I like that! I had a great time for a while. Then I got a migraine. For the first few hours it was a blast. We drank, ate, and I hung out with some friends I haven’t seen in ages, and others that I saw Friday.
I am glad I canceled the rental car. I was happy to be able to drink a bit. And then I started to get a migraine so I am glad I didn’t have to drive home in the rain feeling sick. I cut out right after the wedding since i was out of it. I didn’t get a chance to go back to John & Zee’s to hang out with everyone, but I hope to do that soon enough.
I did nothing but sleep after I got home. That part of the day wasn’t so fun.
Partial Work From Home Day
I had a migraine today. By 11AM I didn’t think I was going to make it through the rest of the day. The medication I took didn’t kick in for a while. By the time my noon meeting that I couldn’t cancel rolled around I was feeling better enough to go out to lunch with the guy I was meeting up with. After lunch I did end up working from home the rest of the day. I had gotten approval to do that before I started feeling better, and it just was easier to spend the last few hours from home on the conference calls I had. I am glad I had a close call and didn’t have a major migraine melt down. I have had those before at work, and they are probably some of the worst things that can happen.
The Free Day, Well Sort Of
Todays schedule at work looked great for me. I only had one meeting scheduled compared to about 7 yesterday. I figured great let me get in some reading in to get me up to speed on what is going on. Well, I was able to do some reading in the AM, but I got sucked into a few items related to some projects my team is working on. Then we had some impromptu meetings, and the next thing I know the day was gone. I kind of like it like that, so it was good to keep things interesting!
My travel plans for St. Louis are finally squared away today. I wont go into details on the blog but I am going out to meet people from my team, and do some work for a few days. I am excited, I think it will be an interesting trip.
I have a bad feeling I might feel the beginnings of a cold. I went to the drugstore on the way home and loaded up on cold prevention stuff. Zycam rocks. Tomorrow I have meetings from 8:30 onward, and then I am going for cocktails afterwards so it will be a long day. I am not planning on doing much drinking just in case I am not being a hypochondriac and I am really coming down with something. Unfortunately I am usually good at reading the warning signs of a cold.
The Do Nothing Weekend
I did nothing this weekend and really enjoyed it. Lately I have been so tired from the week and busy until almost 10PM every night that it is nice to just relax on the weekends. It is a bit anti-social, but I just don’t want to be tired. I did clean my apartment this weekend, but you wouldn’t realize that from the amount of clutter I have accumulated already. Where does it all come from? Next week is John’s wedding so I doubt I will get rest then. The weekend after that I very well might be in St. Louis and working on Saturday so I am living up my free time while I have it.
I am sifting through the old photos I just had scanned. 400 down and who knows how many to go.
My Day With The MINI Cooper S
If you know me, you know that I don’t have a car. The last car I had was my 1999 Mustang that I broke the lease on when I moved back to NYC from Baton Rouge. I miss that car, but I digress. Living in Manhattan really didn’t make it feasible for me to have a car. Now that I am back in Queens I haven’t really needed one, but in the event I did I signed up for a Zip Car membership. Apparently I haven’t needed a car since my annual membership fee had to renew before I actually used the service.
For John’s AC weekend I couldn’t find a ride that was feasible, so I rented one. I got a MINI Cooper S from Zip Car. I got it because I wanted something small and sporty. Let me tell you, that car is both. I wouldn’t sit in the back seat, but the front was comfy. The car handled fantastically. I say that after driving it in pouring rain and crazy wind from the residual Hurricane that happened to be passing through the day I decide to drive 3 hours. The trip down to AC really did suck, but the car handled great in the rain. I had to keep looking at the speedometer to realize how fast I was going in the heavy rain all the time because I would be flying and not even realize it. For me sometimes that is a good thing since I like a bit of speed, but not in heavy rain.
The ride home was even better since it was a bright sunny (dry) morning. The 30+ MPG was also a plus. If you are thinking I am a commercial for the MINI, you would be wrong. I was critiquing it so much because I have been thinking about having my own car again, and the MINI is a candidate. I was thinking about buying or leasing allot more when I actually had the car about 2 weeks ago. Since I started the new job I am reconsidering the need. I will have another chance to play with the MINI when I drive out to John’s wedding this Saturday. I am renting another one.
Relaxing
Yesterday was Friday, so that meant another night meeting up with friends by my old Redcats office. I meet up with a bunch of people at Blaggards and hung out. It was Stanley’s birthday. There was a nice turn out. Luke was out of course. Jeannette, Vanessa, Herbie, Ben, & others also came out. I lost count of how much I spent. I think we had an obscene amount of shots, but I don’t fully recall. I don’t normally do that. Below is a before and after shot of one round.
I had a really good time in spite of my neck killing me again. Last month if you asked if alcohol would stop the sharp pain in my neck I would say no since I tried. Last night it must have been the Jameson shots because the pain went away. It is back again now, but I felt great last night! I now look forward to a restful weekend.
Just a note on the photos. I only had one, and it was for Stanley’s birthday so we kind of had to do a round. We had a nice turn out!
Settling in at Work
I am starting to settle in at work a bit. It will still be a while before I am fully acclimated, but I can at least open my mouth in a few meetings now and have intelligent answers. It is nice to be productive.
Out With Friends
The first week at work was interesting. I was glad to get out for a few quick drinks at Blaggards with some friends. I meet Luke, & Stanley there. After a while a bunch of old friends from Redcats showed up. We talked and hung out for a while. I didn’t want to stay out late so I was home by 9 ish. Sounds kind of early but when you start at 5ish it isn’t.
