Freetalk Wireless

Last week I ordered a Skype Freetalk Wireless headset. It arrived today. Pairing was really easy, and the headset fit well. I am worried that after using it a lot it will feel a bit tight. I like (and don’t like) that the charging is done from the dongle to the headset. I will see if that becomes an issue. I used it for one call today but wont really give it a true test until I am at work on Tuesday.

I have been looking for a good headset to use with my laptop when not at my desk at home. I hope this one works out, since my desk drawers at home are becoming a graveyard for wired and bluetooth headsets alike that haven’t cut it. Seriously I think I have at least 2 wired skype headsets that suck and I don’t use, and about 4 bluetooth headsets. I use 2 of those but not as much as I like and never with the computers since I have quirky issues.

Freeagent Go By Seagate

For the past 6-8 months I have been setting aside money every month to purchase one portable hard drive. I am doing it for back reasons mainly, but I also had other storage needs so I figured I would budget some money each month. In the beginning I was able to get a 320gb drive for the money I put aside. After a few months I was able to get 500gb drives for the same price.

I had been getting mainly Western Digital My Passport Portable drives. They are fine overall. I did try one Iomega, and a Toshiba in December since I got a deal on a 640gb drive I used for my annual backup. This month I tried out the Seagate Freeagent Go drive. I also bought two docks they sell. Let me tell you so far I am very happy. The dock idea is brilliant. I have seen these drives for a while but when I originally wanted a dock I couldn’t get one. Now they are readily available so I bought a 500gb Seagate. Shuttling it around is a snap. I think I am going to switch to Seagate’s for a while as long as they keep selling portable drives that fit the dock systems.

Back To Work

It is back to work after a very light December. I had more time off in December than I worked. That is what I get for not using my vacation before the end of the year. it was nice to relax and travel, but this year I plan on using the time more wisely. I am anticipating a ton of catching up to do but a brief glance at my black berry says I don’t have too bad an amount of email to go through. I think the physiological impact of being back at work will be tougher than the catching up.

New Years

For new years I made plans to goto Jayson & Gretchen’s for the night. Originally we had thought about going to a restaurant near them and get a group of people together. The group didn’t materialize so I went anyway. We had a lower key night. We bought steaks and cooked and stayed in. Dave also came over, but I don’t know what is wrong with him. He is always such a buzkill and needs to control his emotions. Other than Dave being a bit crazy we had a good time. I stayed over and we went for breakfast and then I headed back to the city in the afternoon.

Other items of note on this trip was I ended up breaking down and buying a pair of boots. I had needed after all the snow, but opted for the less water proof ones and went with the more comfortable ones. I got a pair of Doc Martin boots that feel really comfy. My mom said I can do something to them to water proof them a bit. They are still a step up from the shoes I wear when it snows!

A New Netbook

I bought a new netbook to replace my sold HP Mini 1000. I got an Acer 11.9″ model. It is in a nice blue color. It is “technically” not even a netbook since it is runing a real Core Solo processor. This new one comes pre-installed with Windows 7. I am still not a huge fan of the screen size but it is better than the HP. I like this netbook, but the more i use any netbook makes me think I really wont be happy with any screen under 13″. Does that mean I will be getting a Macbook Air in my future? Maybe, I have been thinking about it for over a year. The price is all that is stopping me. I really want a tablet though, so I shall see what comes out next year.

Canceled Order

I canceled my order for an Archos 9 this week. The tablet is shipping much later than originally promised and I wasn’t happy about that. I also read not so stellar reviews about it so I didn’t want to spend $500+ on it. I am hopefully someone (Apple or anyone) will do the tablet right. Instead I am eyeing a larger netbook like laptop than I had. I want an 11″ screen computer. Still searching for the right one.

Xmas

Yesterday I went up to visit Jayson, Gretchen and little Seth for Xmas. It is the second year in a row I spent the holidays with Jay’s family. Even though my family all goes to the same family friends house for a party I never was a huge fan of that gathering. It isn’t my holiday. It is fun to spend it with my friends family. I don’t get to see them all very often so it is a nice change of pace since I do spend most of the other holidays with my family. I spent the night and hung out most of the day today. We watched District 9 and the new Family Guy Star Wars spoof. Both were good.

Even though I had fun yesterday and today I am glad to be home since it is nasty out now. Wet and cold is never fun! I was pondering heading out to the city to meet up with Danny but I am just tired and don’t want to head out again. I have a bunch of stuff to do tonight and early tomorrow and then it is off to my parents for the afternoon.

Its Vacation Again

I am finished with work for the year. I am not traveling as far as I did earlier this month but I am glad to be off for another week and a half. I went into the office yesterday and today and wrapped up a bunch of stuff. Unfortunately some other things just couldn’t be finished because of other peoples vacation schedules. I kinda knew that was going to be the case but I tried to cram as much stuff into the 3 days I was working this week as I could.

Now I am off to focus on what to do this vacation. I still have a few days of nothing planned. Right now that is good and bad! I am going try to get some relaxing in this week.

Back To Work

I am back at work for the first time since the 10th. I spent most of the day catching up on the 667 emails that had piled up. I was actually surprised there wasn’t more mail. I was also pleasantly surprised that it only took me the 1 day to catch up. It is hard getting back into the work mode since I am only working till Wednesday and then I am off again until the 4th of January.

Thankfully after lunch RCN came and fixed my Cable Modem. It took the guy 5 minutes to come in and look at it and say you need a new modem. 5 more minutes later I had a new one and it was working fine. I am glad it was something simple, and that my VPN is working much faster now.

Bad RCN

As predicted RCN was unable to come out to repair my cable modem after the blizzard. I don’t fault them for that. It was nasty out. What I do fault them for is the 3 phone calls to them checking on the service call and being told first that yes they would show up in the window the originally told me. Then the second person told me things are running slow due to weather and they would check with dispatch and get back to me. They never did. The 3rd person was good and was checked and said no one was working on repairs today and they would schedule a call for tomorrow. They were baffled by the other peoples comments. They claim that someone would look into the incident. I hold no hopes that the will actually do that. I am just happy they claim that someone will be out around lunch time tomorrow to fix my modem.

The Mifi isn’t the fastest thing int he world but I can browse the web and check main just fine on it. It gets a bit slow when using the VPN for work.
