Warm And Damp

It is going to be in the 50’s today in NYC. It is also rainy. I have broken out my London Fog (Trench) rain coat. I need to replace this coat. It is getting up in years and probably could use replacement. The warmer weather is a double edged sword for me right now. For one thing my apartment building does not normally turn on the AC until May 15. By then it is really hot. Sometimes they turn it on early, but you never can tell.

Our work AC is nonexistent normally. We have had problems the past two summers with them. Now they are truly nonexistent. The water tower that runs them is gone. We were going to replace 2 of the 3 units with a more powerful air cooled system, but continue to use 1 of the water cooled units. That plan has to change since our building got rid of the water tower that we use. Turns out we shared that with another tenant and that tenant is leaving. Since the tower is in bad repair they are just getting rid of it. We are left to fend for ourselves. We have like 2 months before it starts getting hot again. Hopefully we get something done by then. If it gets too hot I am off to my apartment to work:)

I am not sure if anyone in the office can go through another super hot summer at work. It was 82 degree’s at work yesterday and it was in the 40’s outside.

Missing Sync

I just bought Mark / Space’s the missing sync for the pocket PC. I am now using it to sync my HP iPaq 1945 with my iMac. It works as advertised. I like that I can sync avantgo now without having my work laptop at home. It also does bluetooth syncing. I love that. It was kind of pricey at $40 something, but it is really cool.

I also have their palm sync product. It is good, but I am having problems with the avantgo sync with my Treo and the iMac. I need to find time to work on that issue.

So far high marks for Mark / Space and their products. Makes owning a Mac less stressful knowing you can use more hardware with it, (i.e. my pocket pc and palm) without less features than I would on a PC.

Grandparents

Out of the blue I got a really generous gift from my grandmother. She is my only remaining grand parent, but for the past several years we haven’t talked very much. She can be difficult on good days, and I decided I didn’t want to talk with her if at the end of every call I would be all agitated and we would be arguing.

Well, I saw her at Morgan’s (my niece) first birthday party. She was very nice and mellow. I think older age has mellowed her a bit. Then 2 weeks later I get a card with a large check for my birthday. I called to thank her since it was quite unexpected. We actually had a pleasant conversation. I was kind of weird but nice. I don’t like fighting with her, but for years she made it almost impossible not to. It was nice to just talk.

It was funny I learned that my grandfather liked to play craps also. Ironic since I just learned to play and like it allot.

If all conversations with my grandmother are like this one, I can safely call her and not worry about undue stress or aggravation. After all she is my grandmother.

Cold Conditions

I still feel like crap today. I am letting this cold take its course. It hurts when I talk now, and the cough is getting worse. Hopefully I will be better by Saturday.

Photo Blog

Sunday, almost a year to the day from when I started my blog I put up a Moblog or photo blog. Not sure what to call it. It is photo’s taken from my Treo 600 camera when I am out and about. The timing of the start of the new blog is coincidental. I have been thinking about doing one ever since I got my Treo 600.

I am still skeptical about the whole camera phone phenomenon, but for now I am going along and seeing if it is a cool new invention or a waste of time.

The Moblog is located at textamerica. They seem to be the best at hosting them.

It is really cool that I can take a photo and email it off my phone to them and it is posted instantly. Well almost instantly. T-Mobile data service is still spotty some places. It is really cool anyway.

The Most Awsome Gift

My dad blew me away with the best gift I can ever remember getting. He gave me his Omega Speedmaster chronograph watch. He has had that watch since 1969. It is the exact watch that the first guys on the moon wore. They only made a few of them (couple of hundred he says) or so of them. I remember him telling me of how he saved up for it. It was like $400 back then. I 69 it was allot.

I was really freaked out by the gift since I thought I would get it in his will. That is what we always talked about. He said he wanted to see me enjoy it while he was around and my 30th birthday was a good time to give it to me. I am still a little freaked by it, but it is an awesome gift. I don’t even know how much it is worth now, but it is probably allot. It is just such a cool watch with so much history.

I am not sure if I will wear it on a daily basis. Everyone in my family thinks I should. I am used to being a $40 Casio watch wearing guy.

My dad and I need to goto the jeweler and have the band adjusted. It is way to big for my writs. until then it sits in its box. I can’t wait to get it adjusted if only to give it a test drive so to speak.

Hot Chocolate Or A Frapachino

My throat hurts today so I am debating if I want hot chocolate or a starbucks frapichino? The frap will wake me up from my drug induced sleep from last night, but the hot chocolate will ease my throat a bit. I will have to hit starbucks and find out.

Its funny, I hit the starbucks in Union Square. There are two of them, but I always goto the same one. That place is like a starbucks commercial. There is always one or two people with the laptops (one always a big powerbook) on the T-Mobile Wifi, sipping some concoction of coffee. I always find it amusing. I can’t believe that the majority of starbucks across the country people do that, but they are making there money back at the one by my office.

I will admit I have never done the coffee house wifi experience. Actually don’t think I have ever used a hot spot anywhere. I have used high speed internet at hotels, and at Laptop Lane in airports but never a wifi hotspot. Maybe I am not as big a geek as everyone thinks I am:)

RT

I am still crawling into the linux world. The more I try to get into it, the more I realize how much there is to learn about it.

My latest project I want to get into is RT (Request Tracker). It is a ticketing or request system that is open source. Idealab uses it and many others. It is supposed to be really good. I am trying to install it on my Suse 9.0 desktop at work. If I can get it to work, maybe we will deploy it and replace Mailflow for our support tracking system. Mailflow is good, but I don’t like the fact that it requires you to use IE. That locks me into using windows. I cannot even use IE on my mac, the pages don’t load right.

I still have to see if/how RT’s reporting functions look. Mailflow has nice features that tells me when I get requests, how many and other historical information that is very cool so I can do proper planning.

One Year Of Blogging

It has been one year since I first tried this blogging thing out. I can’t believe it has been a year. I have done journals before, but never for this long. I actually like sitting down and writing about what is on my mind or what is going on in my life. On this one year anniversary of my blogging adventure I say this is still cool.

I hope that I continue on with the blogging endeavor for another year.
