scott I have actually been having thoughts about getting rid of the Tivo. I know you must think I am crazy. I love that thing. It is like a pet or something, but yes it is true I have had thoughts about getting rid of it. Why you ask? I have been looking into ReplayTV. I have heard good things about it. Not sure if they will stay around even after they have been bought up. See ongoing legal saga regarding ReplayTV.
I am hearing that it is just plain better than Tivo.
I have mostly kicked my cold. I have a slight cough and runny noise but otherwise I feel much better. Of course Alison is sick now. Also Keith called yesterday and he is not coming in today because of a fever. I have (or someone else has) successfully passed on the bug.
Last night my family went to Peter Lugar’s. As usual it was a fantastic steak. I think morgan liked the bread and water more though! What does she know, she is 1. I had the steak for 2 with my brother in law. It was dam good. I even made room for desert. Cheese cake. It was good too.
Unfortunately I had to take migraine medication both Saturday & Sunday. Saturday a mild head ache was dogging me all day. By the evening I took the drugs because I felt it might deteriorate quick. That is the big fear, so I took some Furiset.
Sunday I took the meds because I wasn’t sure if I was getting one but I wanted to be ok for dinner. I didn’t want to have to cancel twice for my birthday dinner. Normally I wait too long and the drugs are less effective, today I probably took them too soon. Sometimes I feel like I am always medicating. Then I think about a really bad migraine that I have had, and I realize I don’t care if it will prevent even one of those from happening.
Sunday I got some, but not allot of work done. Instead I cleaned up my apartment. I also cleaned out my closet. I got rid of some old clothes or stuff I don’t ever wear. Then of course I went on line and got some new stuff. I spent more than I would have liked at LL Bean. I am finding I like that store allot.
OK, maybe being over the cold was a premature statement. As I sit on the train writing this I am coughing like crazy. I wont speak about being better again. That way I won’t jinx myself.
I cleaned off allot of shows on my Tivo. I got through a big backlog of stuff that I haven’t watched. I still have loads of crap on it but the recent stuff that I wanted to see is taken care of. I love getting a weekend to just sit and veg out.
I went to the jeweler today with my dad. We are nothing alike in the fashion or jewelry dept. He likes chains and bracelets, and other jewelry. I wear 1 chain I got when I was 13 and a watch. This was my first time to this jeweler. One of my dad’s best friends used to be his jeweler but he got married and moved so my dad found this new guy. I went to try and adjust the watch he gave me so it will fit on my wrist. Right now it is way too big for my wrist. Oops, didn’t get a picture of it on my wrist. It was kind of funny to see.
Turns out that I never realized what makes the Omega watch that he gave some important is that it has the original parts. The band is not the same on all the new ones and you cannot get a replacement like the one currently on the watch. That is bad for me. Since my dad has been wearing the watch for 35 years the band is worn. The links are loose. They are still in really good shape, but they kind of stretched. That means that it wont fit on my wrist correctly. The jeweler is going to see if he can fix it. If not I may have to buy a new band and just keep the old one around in case I need it.
This watch is so freak-in cool. Granted I won’t do anything crazy with it besides get it wet, but it was the watch that they wore on the moon. Can’t say that about my Casio data-link.
Now all I have to do is get used to reading a dial watch. I am so used to digital. I don’t even think I ever had a dial watch?
I will wait the week and see what they can do about getting this thing to fit on my wrist. Till next Saturday…
I was sick the Sunday before my birthday (I had a migraine) so my family was not able to take me out for my birthday dinner. Last weekend my dad worked sunday so we couldn’t go out then. We have make up plans for this sunday. We are once again going to try Peter Lugars. The steaks there are fantastic. Hopefully my cold will be gone by then. I think it broke yesterday and I am on the road to recovery.
Spring is upon us. I have broken out the light weather jacket for the first time in 2004. It will be 65 in NYC today. That means that my companies office will be like a sauna since I bet the heat will still be on, and the AC is not working yet.
I like the winter. You know why? You can always put on another layer of clothing. When it is hot, there is only so much you can take off! I don’t get people complaining it is too cold. I just don’t get it. Put on some gloves and a sweater. Because if it is hot you don’t want most people taking off their shirts!
This program is awesome. The only problem I am having is when I do a bluetooth sync. My iPaq slows way down and IE on the iPaq cannot be stopped until I soft reset it. I don’t think it is the Missing Sync software, but the Bluetooth software on the iPaq. that is my theory right now. I want to try a bluetooth sync on my PC and see what happens but so far I have been unable to get active sync to work at all with bluetooth. Plug n Play my ass. I will tell you Apple has the right idea with owning the OS and the hardware. Stuff just works.
I may actually go out and buy a WIFI card for my iPaq and sync that way over the network. That would be really cool. I am still working out the details for that. The WIFI SD/IO card is like $110.
I am using the camera more for my MoBlog. It is really cool. The Moblog not the camera. The camera sucks, but for a camera on a phone it works ok. It is not a replacement to a real digital camera.
The internet connection still works most of the time. Snapper mail is a killer app. I cannot wait for IMAP enabled version later this year. I am checking out a few DB sync programs for the Palm that will sync access db’s to my palm. that would be cool too, but so far no opinion on them yet.
I had to reinstall all my apps this weekend. I had some new piece of software kill my Treo. it kept rebooting in a loop. The backup on my PC didn’t seem to help, so I had to do a hard reset and start from scratch. Not happy about that, but I got everything back online in a few hours.
It is going to be in the 50’s today in NYC. It is also rainy. I have broken out my London Fog (Trench) rain coat. I need to replace this coat. It is getting up in years and probably could use replacement. The warmer weather is a double edged sword for me right now. For one thing my apartment building does not normally turn on the AC until May 15. By then it is really hot. Sometimes they turn it on early, but you never can tell.
Our work AC is nonexistent normally. We have had problems the past two summers with them. Now they are truly nonexistent. The water tower that runs them is gone. We were going to replace 2 of the 3 units with a more powerful air cooled system, but continue to use 1 of the water cooled units. That plan has to change since our building got rid of the water tower that we use. Turns out we shared that with another tenant and that tenant is leaving. Since the tower is in bad repair they are just getting rid of it. We are left to fend for ourselves. We have like 2 months before it starts getting hot again. Hopefully we get something done by then. If it gets too hot I am off to my apartment to work:)
I am not sure if anyone in the office can go through another super hot summer at work. It was 82 degree’s at work yesterday and it was in the 40’s outside.
I just bought Mark / Space’s the missing sync for the pocket PC. I am now using it to sync my HP iPaq 1945 with my iMac. It works as advertised. I like that I can sync avantgo now without having my work laptop at home. It also does bluetooth syncing. I love that. It was kind of pricey at $40 something, but it is really cool.
I also have their palm sync product. It is good, but I am having problems with the avantgo sync with my Treo and the iMac. I need to find time to work on that issue.
So far high marks for Mark / Space and their products. Makes owning a Mac less stressful knowing you can use more hardware with it, (i.e. my pocket pc and palm) without less features than I would on a PC.
Out of the blue I got a really generous gift from my grandmother. She is my only remaining grand parent, but for the past several years we haven’t talked very much. She can be difficult on good days, and I decided I didn’t want to talk with her if at the end of every call I would be all agitated and we would be arguing.
Well, I saw her at Morgan’s (my niece) first birthday party. She was very nice and mellow. I think older age has mellowed her a bit. Then 2 weeks later I get a card with a large check for my birthday. I called to thank her since it was quite unexpected. We actually had a pleasant conversation. I was kind of weird but nice. I don’t like fighting with her, but for years she made it almost impossible not to. It was nice to just talk.
It was funny I learned that my grandfather liked to play craps also. Ironic since I just learned to play and like it allot.
If all conversations with my grandmother are like this one, I can safely call her and not worry about undue stress or aggravation. After all she is my grandmother.
