Ebay Sale’s

My 10 Gig iPod has been sold on eBay. I am taking it to work today to ship to its new owner. I wanted to get a new one with a bigger drive, but I didn’t realize they don’t sell the 30 gig one’s anymore. 40 Gig is more than I need, and it costs more than I want to pay. I may just hold onto the money and wait and see what comes out next.

I also sold my Treo 270. That went out at the beginning of the week. I go through cycles of selling things on eBay. Looks like I am in one now. I am going through my apartment looking for stuff I don’t use or want to upgrade. So far I am happy with most of my stuff and don’t want to part with it. Of course I really didn’t want to part with my iPod but I kept running out of space on it.

eBooks And Other Apps

I bought an eBook yesterday. To most that would sound like a confession of a first time eBook buyer. I can safely say that I have been buying eBooks since 2000. When I traveled with Datastream I would put ebooks on my then Pocket PC (an HP Jordana) and use it to read when I was out to dinner or something. I used to travel by myself. It was boring at a hotel or restaurant eating by yourself. Instead of bringing a book with me to dinner, I would just have my Pocket PC that I was carrying anyway. It made things easy. I have read a few books on it.

I haven’t read any books, let alone eBooks in a while. A few people have recommended me to read the Da Vincii Code. Instead of buying the book I got the eBook at Palm’s ebook store. it was only $9.99. I put it on my iPack and am reading it using the Palm eBook reader. Palm was smart and made a reader for the Pocket PC, Palm, Mac, and the PC. I can read the book on my Treo 600 or my iPack. The iPack is better since it has a much nicer screen. I am on chapter 4. I will let you know how it is.

I also downloaded a few other free programs and utilities for my Treo 600 off of palm’s new software site, Palmgear.com. I found it when I was buying my eBook. It looks like it is competing with Handango. I like the way they setup the site. They have a my favorite software list so you can keep track of the latest versions of software you like or own. It also tells you how long you have left on trial software you have downloaded.

I didn’t buy anything, but I got a few freeware utilities that look cool. The latest filez program, a drink mixing program and a few others.

Planning

Yesterday we began to enact our departments 3 month project plan. All development projects for the next few months are out on the table so everyone knows what is going on.

Yesterday was another one of those days where half the day was spent in meetings. I did a lot of break fix stuff yesterday. I was not able to move along any major projects (that I can remember now).

It was busy. I didn’t even get to work on my new desktop machine. My HP Evo 330 that I use as my desktop computer at work was having hard drive issues. It keep rebooting and saying it can’t find one. I would have to play with the cables and it would start to work again. I didn’t have time to deal with that so I took a HP Evo 310 something and fixed it up. On tuesday I put a 200 gig drive in it, along with the 80 gig one that was there I now have plenty of space to put VMWare virtual machines. I also pulled out the burner from my 330 and put that in it too. The 510 is a decent machine now. I use this desktop mainly as a VMWare machine. I load it up with ton’s of virtual machines and I can switch between them when needed. I also sometimes use it as a backup box to my laptop. Mainly it is for VMWare. And you know how much I like VMWare:)

Rain Day

It is raining today. Not really hard, but a nice mist. I hate this type of weather. At least it is not hot, that is all I can say.

I got the later train today. I find it funny that I consider it late, but if I catch an 8:32AM train I am at work no later than 9:30AM. That is with stopping to pick up breakfast. Most of our dev staff isn’t in before 10AM anyway, so I am not really late. it is all relative.

If I catch the 8, or 8:15AM train’s I am at work really early or just on time. That is the difference express trains make. Today it was rainy, I wanted to shave, and I didn’t want to be on a wet crowded train while I am still recovering from a cold. Thus I am on the later train. it is never a good idea to use a laptop on a crowded wet train anyway. This way is much better.

Yesterday was low key after I got home. Work was crazy, but we are talking about other things in this entry. (Notice how I try to keep personal and work blog entries separate. That is why I may have several entries in a day. If anything I am well organized). I got home around the normal time, and I attempted to not do much work. I was successful at that BTW. watched some TV and downloaded some new stuff for my Palm.

Train Delays

I am on the early train today. I never know why I choose to take this train. It always ends up waiting near the tunnel to manhattan. That makes the express trip almost as long if not longer than the train’s that make more stop’s. I wanted to get to work earlier today so I took it, but it is always funny to me that the express train that makes no stops after it picks me up takes nearly as long as some local’s or other express trains that may make 1 or 2 more stops after my station. Go figure.

Today is rainy and in the 40’s going on 50’s today in NYC. Plain old dank weather. I am glad it is cool still since the AC problem in my office is still up in the air. I am glad I am not Dan. He has to figure out and fix this problem. Everyone, including myself ask him all the time “what is up with the AC”. I do it now because it drives him crazy. Others really don’t know and ask to get updates.

Vacation Planning

I have to start looking at vacation places. I have my max amount of days I can accumulate. I haven’t been away since last June when I went to barbados with my family. I was thinking of taking a long weekend and going to New Orleans to visit Jayson. I wanted to go April 16 – 19, but the airfare was really expensive. I thought Jet blue’s prices were consistent. That they didn’t go up as the date of travel got closer. I was wrong. It was like $400 for a round trip ticket to New Orleans that weekend, but if I planned something in May it was $220. Delta who I also like to travel on wanted almost $300 and I would need to transfer in atlanta. Now the atlanta airport brings back memories of my travel days at Datastream but I would rather have a direct flight that was cheaper, and oh lets throw in some free TV while I am at it. Jet Blue I am sold.

I really do need to plan a real week long vacation. I have too many travel ideas. I can think of like 5 different places I want to goto. I need to pick one and go. Maybe this summer?

MoBlog Update

I am actually using this MoBlog by Textamerica. It is fun taking pictures and sending them off to the web. During the week I realize that things are repetitive. I have a routine. I take the train to work, get breakfast, goto work. Then I take the train home. That is what I will be taking pictures of, since that is what I do 5 days a week! I have already found some interesting things to snap. I am waiting for the novelty of the whole photo taking thing to wear off, but it hasn’t yet.

Palm And Expansion Cards

I don’t like the way Palm handles expansion cards. I took some pictures with my Treo camera and by accident saved them to the SD card. I cannot send the pictures via email while they are on the SD card. No problem I think, I can just copy them to the main memory and I am off. no problem. Wrong! the camera software doesn’t have a copy utility. Filez the file browsing software that I have just lets you see where stuff is. It doesn’t let me copy or move stuff. So I know exactly where the pictures are, but I cannot do anything with them on my Treo. I need to offload them to a PC and then move them to the Palm. how stupid is that?

Pocket PC’s handle expansion cards like another drive. Why can’t Palm???

Pocket PC WiFi

I received my Sandisk SD/IO WiFi Card yesterday. I ordered an 802.11b card for my Compaq iPaq 1945 Pocket PC. My goal is to be able to sync wirelessly my iPaq with Avantgo when my laptop is not at home. Also to be able to browse the web via wireless on the iPaq.

The setup was almost painless. The drivers installed fine. Getting the Wifi key to work was another story. Who knew that even if you don’t use a HEX code for your wifi the windows pocket pc needs you to convert it to HEX. once that was done and a reset later I got an IP address. things looked good from there. My problem is when I sync or use IE with the network card, my Pocket PC slows to a crawl. A soft reset fix’s things but then the card doesn’t find the network. I was too busy yesterday to troubleshoot the problem further, but it was frustrating.

I hope to look at the problem more today if I don’t go home and go right to sleep.

When Migraines Attack

Monday was a hit or miss kind of day. Most of the day I felt ok. I started getting a migraine about lunch time. I forgot to bring my med’s with me so Cari was nice enough to lend me some Furiset. I had that and ate lunch and felt better for most of work. On the way home I started to crash again. I ended up getting home and going right into bed. This was 7PM. I got up at some unknown time during the night for a class of water and then I was back in bed for the rest of the evening. I haven’t done that in a while. I needed the sleep but it is weird going right to sleep when you get home from work and then get up and go to work the next day.

I do feel allot better right now. I don’t want to push my luck but hopefully I have kicked the sick streak. I did have to take migraine medication Saturday, Sunday, & Monday.

The plus side was I completed work normally Monday. That is always important to me. I don’t like to loose work over a stupid headache.
