The Move Is Set

I have booked my movers. I have reserved the date to move in both buildings (old and new). now all I have to do is pack. I haven’t done anything yet. I will try and start this weekend. Moving is expensive. It will be costly to pay people to do it for me, but I think I am passed the moving your self phase.

I have my cable install date already. I have my phone in my old place ready to be canceled. the only thing I haven’t done is cancel my cable at my current place. Then it is address move request forms.

I cannot wait to do this. I think this move will be good. I am looking forward to my new place. I hope I really do appreciate the shorter commute now.

This weekend I will help Jayson move into his new place. he is currently in Georgia en route to NYC. He should be here by Saturday morning.

I am currently en route to kingston. Kai and I are doing a network upgrade tonight. I tried to sleep in, but couldn’t. I was up by 9AM today. I caught a much earlier train than I was planning.

Looks like Kai couldn’t sleep either. he called and is on his way to the office now also. he will beat me in.

I just hope I am not tired later tonight when we start the work. I am not feeling 100% right now, but I am not hurting in a bad way either. My problem is when I goto kingston I tend to get migraines. Not sure if it is the travel or what but most of the trips I end up needing migraine medication. I hope today is the exception to that rule.

Sony Ericsson HBH-65

I have had the SE HBH-10, the HBH-30, and now the HBH-65. Pretty much all three generations of SE’s bluetooth headsets. I have also had the Motorola gen 1 headset. The first couple of generations of the SE’s needed work. So far this new headset seems ok.

I made several calls with it paired to my SE T610. All were loud and mostly clear. Miguel said that he heard background hum when I called, but he could hear me clearly. Everyone else had no complaints about it.

making calls was easy. When the phone was paired to the headset it just switched over to the headset when dialing a call.

Recieving calls has been a bit trickier. I am still working on getting the headset to answer the call without having to transfer the call from the phone to the headset.

The headset fits nice in my ear. It is really small. I thought it would be bigger, but I am not upset by it being so small. I just hope I don’t break it like I did my motorola.

I am going to try and use it allot in the next 2 days while I am in Kingston. Hopefully I will iron out all the kinks with it.

Bluetooth Headset

I went ahead and ordered a bluetooth headset yesterday. I should get it today before I leave the office. I went with the Sony Ericsson HBH-65. It was either that or the Motorola one or another no name brand. None of them had perfect scores on the reviews I read. The SE I got actually has distance issues with the bluetooth antenna. I don’t plan on being that far away from the phone. My biggest requirements were good voice quality, and a comfy fit. This headset should do that.

I liked my old Motorola one but it broke last year after a night of drinking. I think I threw my bag down on the floor somewhere and it cracked the headset. oh well. The prices have gone on them though. This one was only $103, plus shipping. The motorola one I got back in December 2002 was almost $200. the old HBH-10 I got when bluetooth headsets came out was over $200. Lets hope this one works as advertised…

Last Day Before The Forth

Today is my last day in the office before the 4th weekend. I am in kingston tomorrow and friday for some network work. I have to get allot done today since jayson is still not back. He should have left New Orleans today for his trip back.

Once I return, full time packing for me!

Fire Dept Activity

Not sure what was going on, but there was a fire trick and crew at my rail road station this morning. It was weird. Like 6 guys walking on the other platform and then they were huddled near something. Not sure what. Their was no obvious fire. Nothing suspicious. as my train left the station it looked like they were looking up the embankment or tree near the station. Maybe something got caught in the tree. It was interesting enough to keep the morning exciting!

This is what I get for taking the early train.

UPDATE: As I got to penn station I heard an announcement that all trains on my line were delayed now because of fire department activity. Must have been something going on after all.

iMac Will Stay, For Now

I have decided to keep the iMac for now. I decided that I do like it, and I do use it. Any other solution won’t be that great right now. So instead of investing more money in something else, I will keep what I have.

I do need another firewire hard drive though. My Lacie 200 Gig drive is running low on space. My other 160 gig drive in my PC only has 8 gigs free. I think I can get another 200 gig firewire drive for around $200. I will wait till after I move to pick it up. I am trying to save this month. So far I am doing ok, but there is several things I need to buy that I am waiting to spend money on.

Late Night Postponed

The late night I had scheduled tonight has been delayed. I am not sorry about it. I hate staying up till 1am only to start working. Our DB staff needed more time to ensure that our swap of servers we were planning went off without any problems.

With this late night on hold, I can possibly move up my other late night I had scheduled for Thursday/Friday. I am checking with Kai to make sure he can do the work early. We need to upgrade a switch in Kingston and also we want to do some rewiring. that requires us to work at night.

Also by doing the work tomorrow night, I can be in the office friday. Gus is going on vacation Friday so he would rather me be around. Schedule juggling is abound today…

Bluetooth Headsets

I was cleaning out my closet and came across my original Ericsson Bluetooth headset. it was the first one to market that I can remember. It never worked right. I tried to use it again with my new T610 thinking maybe it was the phone that sucked. I was wrong. it was the headset. I am tossing it. It is not even worth putting up on Ebay.

I now want another bluetooth headset. I remember how cool it was to use one. Dam Treo 600 with no bluetooth makes that difficult to do. I would need to use my T610 with the headset. If PalmOne doesn’t get their head out of their ass’s soon, I may have to give up that device. No matter how cool the Treo is. It takes them forever to come out with newer versions of it, and then they stagger its release with different carriers by months. get with the program, and fix your issues and make more of them.

It is time I shopped for a bluetooth headset. I am off to the internet for research.

Sean And Kelly’s Visit

It sucked, they are a bunch of pain in the ass’s. No really, I am just kidding. I always wanted to play a prank on the blog. I know sean reads this, so hey Sean. I am kidding! Feel the love:)

I actually had a great time. I need to get together with them more often. I want to go out by them sometime after I move. I think it is time to cash in some Delta Sky Miles.

They had a cool rental car with GPS, that worked. I had a blast. I want to write more, but sleep awaits…

Allot To Write About

I have allot to write about, but for some reason don’t feel that up to writing today. So here will be a quick recap of the weekend.

I continued to throw stuff out of my apartment in anticipation of my move next month.

I am also getting ready to ebay a bunch of tech stuff I have. I realized that allot of my crap is not worth that much anymore used. So it is easier to just keep it and or give it away.

Had dinner with Carrie, and my grandmother tonight. Morgan also! My grandmother was in to visit my cousin who is sick. She took us to dinner. it was actually pleasant. That is not always the case with my grandmother.

Got a hair cut on Saturday. My regular barber wasn’t there. Not sure what his deal was. His father did my hair. Didn’t do a good job. it is ok, but he didn’t listen to me when I gave him instructions. That may be the last time I go to that place since I am moving. I need to find a new place in the city for next time.

We had an issue with one of our Call Manager Servers Saturday that caused it to fail. The second machine in the cluster took over fine, but we had about 15 seconds of down time while that happened. Kai is working on getting a patch for it. I spent allot of Saturday working on the phone system because of that, and other issues.

The plus side is I did some more work on our IVR. I even setup our own for Support, to prove the concept. An IVR for support is overkill but we had extra 800#’s and it shows that they system can work.
