A New Place of My Own

I finally found a new apartment that I am going to rent. After looking far and wide i found something that meets my tastes, is affordable (for me), quick commute to work, and in a decent neighborhood. I go to sign a lease in a week or two. The down side is i wont be able to move in until the 2nd week of august since the building is new so they are staggering people moving into individual floors. I will probably stay with my parents for the duration. More news as it happens.

The Censorship Age

I was a bit ticked off to read that the US government is now trying to regulate what they think is indecent on Cable TV. The last I checked the government only applies standards on broadcasts used on the public airwaves such as the big networks. I don’t understand how they can apply broadcast standards to cable channels that I pay to have, that DO NOT go over the public airwaves. If you want to edit content that kids can get to why don’t parents take some control of their kids lives, or maybe get a V-Chip and use it. My mom was a teacher for like 30 years and agrees with me on this one. Instead of regulating how to be a good parent, get people to parent their kids and let adults watch what they want to watch.

I have heard about this legislation before, but it looks like it is becoming more of a reality now. I wonder what else the government thinks they need to regulate since they think i am too stupid to think for myself.

Fathers Day, A Day Early

I went to my sisters today to have an early fathers day. My dad was hanging out watching Zachary while my sister packed. My mom came to get me in the city so we could go get Morgan’s bike fixed. We then all hung out at Carries place and had dinner. It was low key but i had a good time. I am slowly starting to get a big concerned about my dad’s foot, but I was told not to worry yet. Worrying anyway!

Time With The Family

Today i went to my sisters to primarily see everyone, but the alterer motive was to fix my niece Morgan’s computer. Who knows what they did but i had to fix it. This will probably be the last time i see them at their apartment in Forest Hills since they move in a week. It is always high paced but great to see everyone. You can’t sit still with little kids!

New Widget

I just turned on the Snap Shot widget on this site. I have seen it on several sites before and it is really cool, so i researched it and found that Typepad offers it on my blog so now i have it also. Cool addition to my site, so I wanted to write about it.

Recruiting

Over the past several weeks i have been interviewing people like crazy for open positions we have on my team. We have been a bit under staffed for a while. We had 2 people leave plus we added new positions so it since a little after i started it seemed like we were under staffed, because we were. Within the past week we have had 2 new people start. I am hoping another person will take an offer and we will be close to full strength. It is good to be able to move multiple projects along when you have the manpower to do it.

Things are starting to shape up at the new place and I am starting to feel more at home. It is a nice feeling. I just don’t want to jinx myself by saying it.

Network Issues

Today started early with a network circuit outage, and closed the day with another network circuit outage. All told i think we had three distinct circuits go on the fritz. We had backups, but one needed to be manually switched and the outages caused us to stop everything and work on the problems. It was a long tiring day. I passed up going out for my dad’s birthday because i was so tired and i had a minor head ache.

Please Pass The Crazy Pills!

I received my lease renewal paperwork in the mail this week. I knew my rent was going to go up, but someone must be on some really happy pills if they think that i will pay a 14% increase in my already overpriced rent for another year. I couldn’t stop laughing because someone was serious when they mailed this paper to me. I like my apartment, and i like my neighborhood, but it isn’t worth the price anymore. Especially now that i have a new job and it is no where as easy to get to work as it used to be.

I have already begun looking for apartments in Queens for significantly less money. I am trolling Craigslist for ad’s. Hopefully i will find something soon.

Shrek #3

Other than selling my extra monitor today, I went to see the 3rd Shrek movie with Danny and Starr. It was really funny. Not sure if it was better than the other 2 but it was well worth the money, and walking home in the rain. Now i am cleaning up my apartment and trying to relax before the work week starts again tomorrow.

The Old 20″ Display

After puttering around for a while I finally put my Apple 20″ Cinema display up on Craigslist to be sold. I have been lazy about selling it, and frankly it would have sold on ebay in no time but i didn’t want to deal with all the shipping and fees, etc. So i tried Craig’s list. I was about to give up hope, when after a few days someone replied to the posting, and the awesome flat panel now has a new home. I mean it was awesome. I just wanted even bigger, so I have my 23″.
