Today I reached my weight loss target. When I started in May I didn’t even have this target in mind. I was thinking I wanted to lose 10-15lbs. When I was well on my way to that target I adjusted it and was targeting 20-25lbs. That quickly turned into a target that when complete would be 33.7lbs loss. I have a few other posts that outline what I did and how i achieved this goal. What is funny is after I got started I wasn’t afraid of the process of losing the weight. I am concerned I will gain it back eventually.

250 miles With Fitbit
I just unlocked the 250 mile achievement since starting to use it in early September. For that amount of time I dont know if that is good or bad but it makes me feel good that i walked 250 miles regardless.
Ordered a Jawbone UP24
I keep waffling on what fitness device I am using. After lots of replacement units of the Jawbone UP I got a Fitbit Flex in September. I used both devices for most of October to see how they compared. Then I dropped the UP in favor of the Flex. Part of the reason I did that was that the UP was too big on my wrist after my weight loss in recent months. The Flex didn’t have the inactivity monitor that I liked with the UP. it also seems to record about 2,000 more steps a day for me than the up does.
Just as I was getting used to using the Flex Jawbone comes out with the UP24. It offered me the bluetooth sync that the Flex has and all the features that the original UP had. I took the risk and ordered one in Medium hoping it fits and i can go back to using the UP. I will write more once I get it and see how it works.
My Fitbit Flex
Today i got a fitbit flex. I wasn’t planning on getting one but i was in BestBuy and walked past it and couldn’t resist. I have a Jawbone UP but have been wondering about the Flex evver since it was announced. With all my issues with my UP’s even though i like the UP i wanted to give the Flex a test drive. I plan on using both for a while to see what one i like better.
I Have a New Nemesis, Well Technically Two of Them
On my road to a lower weight i have learned many things about food and about myself. Recently the biggest things I have learned are who are my enemies. I didn’t think I had many of them but I have learned that not to be true. Early on in my weight loss mission I learned French Fries were not only not my friend but they were evil. They became nemisis number one. For years we were so friendly. I ate them and they kept being so tasty. Now they are generally what makes a meal ok to wow I will gain weight tomorrow.
This past month I learned of another rival, the once so nice cake. MC has been making test cakes for Teagan’s upcoming birthday parties (we are doing one for Family and one for Teagan’s friends). Being a good husband and father it was my duty, no responsibility to sample the test cakes. What I learned was two fold. One, MC makes fantastic cake but I kinda already knew that. The decorations are pretty amazing. Two, cake is now my nemesis. Granted I ate 3 slices in one day of the first test cakes but I didn’t expect to gain over 2lbs doing so. It took over a week to get back down to the weight I was before I ate the cake. I know I need self control but it is not my fault my enemies are so tasty. I am great if I just dont have any and stay away from it. That is what I do with fries, but cake is harder to resist after I have one small slice I have to have more.
I think I need to fast leading up to Teagan’s birthday. That is my current solution for birthday cake problems that are in my future!
Sick Day And Record Weight
Today is the first day I weighted in under 170. My official weigh in according to my nice Withings Scale was 169.7. That was a big phycological barrier to cross for me.
Today I also took a sick day. I am still trying to recover from my cold.
Another Jawbone UP
While I was away on vacation my jawbone UP broke yet again. Their warranty replacement process takes one to two weeks. They’re very good with giving you a replacement UP’s but it takes forever to get it. I am assuming since I have gone through six or seven of them and I don’t beat them up very much they are having problems with them and that is why they are quick to replace them. While I’m trying to actually lose weight and check my activity every day not having an UP for one to two weeks is very difficult. Because of that I decided to eat the $129 and get another one so I had it when I got home from vacation. I seriously contemplated getting the Fitbit Flex but I opted for another UP. MC convinced me to get another black band one instead of the blue one I was looking at. I’m glad she did because Jawbone I didn’t have any black ones in stock so the replacement one I am getting will be blue.
My 4th Jawbone UP
Today I received yet another Jawbone UP. It is my 2nd replacement band for my 2nd generation UP so that makes me on UP #4.
My UP is Broken
Today when I went to sync my Jawbone UP I discovered the end that you plug into your phone was recessed a bit. It made it difficult to plug into my iphone. In the end i was able to sync it but it was obvious the device was broken. I contacted Jawbone support and they are going to send me a replacement unit since this one is under warrantee. I have to just keep this one working until I get my replacement unit. It may take a week to 10 days to get.
My 2nd (or 3rd, depending on how you look at it) Jawbone UP
Last week I got a new Jawbone UP. So far I have been very pleased with it. MC saw it and I was suprised that she was interested in one too. She wants to work out more and it seemed like a good tool to motivate her. After trying to see what colors I could get her I ended up back at the Apple store picking up another black band for her. Only difference between hers and mine is hers is a smaller size.
We now are “compeeting” with each other and seeing our results. I hope for both of us this gets us to be more active. If anything it makes me smile every time I see the cute picture MC took for her profile picture.
