Today + Poker + Scott = $

Today we had a poker game. Dan had 10 people over and we had a nice round of Texas Hold em. I can’t spell the game (or anything else for that matter), but I can sort of play it. We had a good game. It started early so it finished up early. I started out strong with a few hands, then I got beaten down a bit, especially by Miguel. Then I ended up staying in and coming in 2nd. Not bad out of 10 players. I got a nice chuck of the pot. Miguel played loud, and intense. he took a bunch of my money. Jack took some of his money and dan took both of their money. John never had a decent hand and got blown away. Alyssa and Joseph also got out early on. Heather and Igor fell in the middle. Gus and jack ended up both going out on the same hand and tied for 3rd and it came down to Jack having a better high card in order to take 3rd and make his money back.

It was down to Dan and I for 1st & 2nd place. Everyone thought I had a chance, but dan had more than triple the amount of chips that I had. I got out in like 3-4 hands. I was happy to make a bit of cash and not loosing anything.

I learned allot from tonight’s game. I learned that Joseph, and Heather are new, but decent players. John may or may not be a good player, but luck was not on his side tonight. Jack is good, and conservative. He had some chances to go head to head with some people and he backed down. Other times he got into the mix and came out on top. To me he was the one to watch tonight. Dan was good as always. Gus also is hit or miss. Looks like luck was not on his side tonight, but he still made 4th place.

It was a fun game. It turns out there was some contention regarding this game tonight. Dan could not host more than 10 people. he couldn’t have 2 tables, so 10 was the max he could do. Their was about 20 or so people who wanted to play. he couldn’t even invite friends from out of work like he normally does. Their was so many people who wanted to play at least 2 people got upset about not being invited. One of who I didn’t even know liked to play poker. Honestly I didn’t want her to play either. She probably wouldn’t be quiet during the game. Their were others who ended up getting left out, but didn’t seem to take it badly, or didn’t know that a game was on. That just shows you that you can’t please everyone all the time, and adults can act like children if given the chance. Of course this is from someone who was at the game and never even “officially” asked to play. It was just assumed I would play until Dan asked me on tuesday. I don’t play allot but I am always down for a good fun poker game.

Now I hope my luck lasts until I get back from Vegas. And no I do not plan on playing poker while in Vegas. Sean and I are going to try our luck with Craps…

What’s Going On?

I have taken a few days off from blogging. I have been busy. Thursday night / Friday morning Jayson and I did our rewiring of our NYC computer room. We redid an entire rack. We also fixed the KVM’s in NYC. It took us from 9PM till around 4AM to complete the work. I was so tired afterward.

I was stupid during the work. I climbed onto of 2 of our racks to free up some caught cable. Getting down I hit my elbow on a rack door. It hurt. It is nice and black and blue now. Well actually it looks better now, but was black and blue when I did it Thursday night.

I didn’t get much sleep Friday morning. I had to get back to work. I ended up getting back to the office at 12:15PM. Turns out we got everything back online except 1 server. The server was ok, but the disk array plugged into it was not responding. Thankfully Gus got it working by rebooting it. This was not before he complained that jay and I were not in the office in the morning. He forgot about a little thing called sleep.

Surprisingly I completed the day friday like normal. I still don’t think I have caught up on sleep though.

I just hung out at home Friday night. I needed a night to just relax.

Saturday was another story. Due to our domain controller problem from last Monday I have had tape backup issues all week. The tape backup system runs on the domain controller that went down. So I have been working on getting the backups working like normal since Tuesday. I had to work on the backups a bit Saturday. Still no resolution. I also had to cancel plans with alison because of the problems.

After working on the backups, I got a call from Dan about a poker game. I was in.

My dad gave me a rid to the train so I wouldn’t have to leave a car there all night. As we pulled up to the station I realized it was May 1st and I had forgotten my new may monthly ticket. I should have taken that as a sign how my luck was going to go at poker that night and just go home. Of course I didn’t.

I had to get my cousin a 40th birthday gift so I went to best buy and got a gift card. I waited for the 1 train for 20 minutes before one came. That was another sign that my luck was not going my way. At best buy I did get to cut the entire line because I was paying by credit card and no one else seemed to be. That was a piece of good luck.

At poker I ended up loosing $40.00. That is not allot. I thought I was going to loose really quick. I lost my initial 2000 in chips, and then another 1000. I sat for a while before I could buy back in for the last time. By then I figured I would be out quick. Maybe be the first of the 8 to go out. Turns out I held on pretty long. I ended up being in 4th place. Granted it was a distant 4th from the guy in 3rd, but I held out for so long. Everyone left kept trying to kill me off for like an hour. That is what you do in that situation. But I just kept getting good enough (or great) hands that kept me alive. I wish that my luck was that good during the first half of the game. That way I might have had enough money to have been a threat by the end. All in all I had a good time.

I got to bed late again Saturday. actually by the time I got into bed it was early sunday morning.

The Casino

For the past few days my status regarding a trip we are taking to Foxwoods casino has been up in the air. Most of the management team of my company is going to celebrate a good year last year. Some of the Tech department cannot go since we are releasing a major product on friday morning. My role would be as backup in the event something went wrong with the infrastructure. Today Gus decided that I can go to the casino after all since I have a cell phone and the hotel has high speed internet. Gus and Bob will stay back in NYC and go up to the casino Friday afternoon.

This is good for me. With Gus gone I have one less good poker player to contend with on Thursday nights game we are scheduling!!!

I now have to go home and do laundry and then pack. We leave Thursday afternoon at 3PM.

Poker Was A Bust

We played poker tonight at Dan’s place. Gus, Molly, Miguel, Keith, Rajive, Daniel, Glenn, Dan and myself played. It was chaotic at first since Rajive, Keith, & Glenn never really played texas hold-um before.

I ended up loosing. I got ahead quick with a hand that I almost didn’t realize I won. Then I lost it all to Molly with a pair of 9’s. I knew I didn’t have a hand that could win very much but I went all in anyway hoping I had something better than her. I didn’t and I got out. I was only down 30 buck so it was no big deal. When I left Dan, Glenn, & Molly were left. Molly had a huge amount more money then glenn so I assume she was going to win. Dan had almost nothing left but was assured 3rd place.

I had a good time. Gus is planning on doing poker next week at his place. I am down for that again. As my friend sean once said about going to a casino and loosing money. “we go skying and pay $50 for a lift ticket. I am spending the same amount of money in the casino. It is the cost of entertainment for a day.” now that works when you loose $30 bucks after a couple of hours playing poker. It is not valid when you blow $500 in 30 minutes at a casino. Thankfully that has never happened to me! Sean has had his share of crazy wisdom.

Poker Again, Maybe

Dan wants to do poker thursday. We shall see if anyone gives the ok to doing it. I am in, unless I am wiped out from the Wednesday late night upgrade. I think we may also have a party at work that day so we may have a conflict.

An Attempt At Poker

So I still feel crappy from yesterday. I am still attempting to do poker with Dan and his friends tonight at his place. I missed the last poker session so I don’t want to be left out of this one. Missing too many may mean not being invited in the future. And I don’t want that. I will get some breakfast and see if I can turn this day around and feel a bit better.

Gus is away with Glenn in San FranCisco for 2 days. He sent a whole big email to everyone regarding attendance and then took off for work. He was not to happy about the lateness and people working from home. I cannot blame him. it is sort of out of control. People just email the group that they will be out sick. That is just not the way it is done. Changes are in the works, or so it seems.

Been Busy

I was away in Kingston till Wednesday night. I was busy and tired at night so I didn’t blog. Tons to talk about but I just am not in the mode to write that much. As I said Kingston was buys. Tons of issues remain outstanding. NYC is also a hotbed of problems right now. I hope to have things straightened out by next week.

Tomorrow I go with my family to my mom’s friends house for the Jewish holiday’s. I am not a big “holiday” fan, but I do what the family asks in situation’s like this. Why piss off my mom when I don’t have to! I will play next time.

I didn’t go to Gus’ for poker like I thought I would tonight. I had too much to do, and I was really tired. I didn’t really want to be out late tonight while I had problems to work on.

Never-mind What I Said About Poker

OK, so I canceled going to poker. It was going to be a late night, and I am not ready to goto Kingston tomorrow. I needed to get some last minute work, and house stuff done today. I will go with my dad as planned tomorrow morning and then head up to Kingston.

I got my Mom’s EZpass so hopefully the trip won’t be so bad. Tried a new (or new for me) italian restaurant by my house. The food was ok, but the service was really slow.

I also got a bunch of clothing shopping done. I finally got a Fall/Spring coat. Also tried some new khakis and polo’s. I am buying polo’s again:( Dam company dress code.

I need to pack now, and finish folding my laundry. I also have to remember to export all the hold messages from my companies NYC office to bring to Kingston.

Poker Again

I just got the call that we are trying again for poker tonight. Even though I am in pain from the last huge loss, I am down. I need to build my confidence and my bank account back up:) I am planning on crashing at dan’s tonight and then head home in the AM to shop with my dad. Then it is off to kingston in the afternoon.

I need to go shower and do my laundry now.

Poker Plus Me Equals Loser

Tonight was another poker night. This time we went to Gus’ place to play. Molly’s sister April and her husband came over to play with Gus, Molly, Daniel, Dan, and myself. We played for a slightly smaller pot tonight. Unfortunately fortune did not smile on me like it did last time. In pre game hands I was doing good. To my dismay all the luck I had for the night ran dry before the actual game started. I ended up becoming the first victim to lose all their money. To my credit I went all in on a hand where the last card thrown down completed my flush. Gus unfortunately had a flush with a queen hight. That beat my 8 high. If I had a flush I had to play it to the end. I couldn’t have folded, so I stand behind my decision. In the last game, that is what created huge winnings for me. Taking the plunge and going with that gut instinct that say’s you have the better hand. Of course it just didn’t work tonight. Oh well.

I had a good time. I didn’t go into tonight planning to win. I didn’t go into the last game planning to win. And I won that one. I play, or try to play as if the money in chips is already lost.

As I left to catch the train (luck smiled on me there. The cab got me to penn station with 1 minute to spare.) Gus was up, but Molly and April were not doing so bad either. We shall see who the big winner turns out to be.
