Almost Famous

I am not almost famous. Not even close. I am talking about the movie. Saturday was low key. I got up early. Probably from the drinking friday night, so I decided to go get a hair cut.

I met my dad for breakfast after that, and we went to his jeweler. I got back my new (new to me) watch. He was able to find someone who took off 2 links on the band to make it fit on my wrist. I was very happy. I wore it all day Saturday. It was allot heavier than I am used to in a watch. It will take some getting used to.

Alison went to an afternoon movie and dinner with one of her friends so we met late to hang out. She wanted to watch a tape (or DVD). Since I don’t have any old VHS tapes, I decided to bring my Thinkpad over to her place. I hoped to plug it into the S-Video connector on her TV so we could watch a DVD. She does not have a DVD player. Turns out her TV is so old it didn’t have an S-Video connection. We ended up watching the movie Almost Famous on her coffee table. She never saw it. It was a great movie.

They are correct in saying opposites attract. Only I (a big tech guy) would go out with someone who has no DVD player and a TV from 1985. At least it is a big screen from 1985.

I had a good night even though Alison and her friend went to the Outback without me:(

My New Watch, Well Not Yet!

I went to the jeweler today with my dad. We are nothing alike in the fashion or jewelry dept. He likes chains and bracelets, and other jewelry. I wear 1 chain I got when I was 13 and a watch. This was my first time to this jeweler. One of my dad’s best friends used to be his jeweler but he got married and moved so my dad found this new guy. I went to try and adjust the watch he gave me so it will fit on my wrist. Right now it is way too big for my wrist. Oops, didn’t get a picture of it on my wrist. It was kind of funny to see.

Turns out that I never realized what makes the Omega watch that he gave some important is that it has the original parts. The band is not the same on all the new ones and you cannot get a replacement like the one currently on the watch. That is bad for me. Since my dad has been wearing the watch for 35 years the band is worn. The links are loose. They are still in really good shape, but they kind of stretched. That means that it wont fit on my wrist correctly. The jeweler is going to see if he can fix it. If not I may have to buy a new band and just keep the old one around in case I need it.

This watch is so freak-in cool. Granted I won’t do anything crazy with it besides get it wet, but it was the watch that they wore on the moon. Can’t say that about my Casio data-link.

Now all I have to do is get used to reading a dial watch. I am so used to digital. I don’t even think I ever had a dial watch?

I will wait the week and see what they can do about getting this thing to fit on my wrist. Till next Saturday…

The Most Awsome Gift

My dad blew me away with the best gift I can ever remember getting. He gave me his Omega Speedmaster chronograph watch. He has had that watch since 1969. It is the exact watch that the first guys on the moon wore. They only made a few of them (couple of hundred he says) or so of them. I remember him telling me of how he saved up for it. It was like $400 back then. I 69 it was allot.

I was really freaked out by the gift since I thought I would get it in his will. That is what we always talked about. He said he wanted to see me enjoy it while he was around and my 30th birthday was a good time to give it to me. I am still a little freaked by it, but it is an awesome gift. I don’t even know how much it is worth now, but it is probably allot. It is just such a cool watch with so much history.

I am not sure if I will wear it on a daily basis. Everyone in my family thinks I should. I am used to being a $40 Casio watch wearing guy.

My dad and I need to goto the jeweler and have the band adjusted. It is way to big for my writs. until then it sits in its box. I can’t wait to get it adjusted if only to give it a test drive so to speak.

Ready Or Not Work Starts Tomorrow

I had one last day of rest and now work starts again tomorrow. I did my laundry and cleaned a bit today, but other than that I took it easy. I still have a nasty cough, but other than that I feel allot better than I did last week. Not 100%, but better. My parents came over to measure stuff. I am getting my new furniture (there old furniture) in a few weeks and we wanted to make sure that everything will fit. I did an awesome Visio of my apartment and all the furniture in it. it was to scale and everything. Unfortunately I cannot seem to find it. It was lost when I had my hard drive issues a few months ago. I cannot seem to find it in my backups. I am not happy about it. A work skill finally put to use for my house and it is lost. I found it so funny that my sister was amazed at that visio, and it only took me like 1 hour of measuring and about an hour an a half of work in Visio. 🙁

My mom talked me into getting more stuff than I anticipated on. I am getting this huge plush chair for my bedroom. I need to get rid of my Pier 1 papizan chair to make it fit. I love that chair but it is starting to break anyway. It is take this chair from my parents or buy another $300 papizan chair. The only think I will need after this furniture arrives is a small kitchen table. I am not even sure if I need one, but I will have the room for it. I can always eat on the dining room table.

OK, I am off to bed. This will hopefully be my last night on Tylenol PM. I need to wean myself off that stuff.

Treo 600

The Treo 600 is out for Sprint. My dad still say’s he is happy with his choice of the older Treo 300. I await the 600 being availible for T-Mobile. Rumor has it that will be on the 13’th or sometime next week. Not sure if that is rumor or if it is true. Either way I will get it as soon as it comes out.
