I was walking around midtown Manhattan today. Around 42 to 57st and 7th ave. For some reason I saw a ton of Navy and Marine’s in uniform. Not sure why. is the fleet in? Two groups of them were doing interviews for camera crews. it was really weird seeing them all around. Another group was gathered around the “holding area” near MTV. That is all I can call it. it is a police barricaded area where teens usually stand and wait to see if they get on camera outside the MTV studio.
Bizarre day in NYC.
UPDATE: I found out at dinner tonight that it is in fact fleet week in NYC. that explains allot for me about the sailor guy’s in the city.
I went apartment hunting again today. So far no keepers, but I found two neighborhoods that I like. I was looking in the high 50’s near Central Park. I thought it would be expensive but it was in my price range. The buildings are older, but I found out an important fact. Older buildings equal bigger apartments. That is a trade off I may be willing to make.
One building I went to looked not so great. the other one was really cool looking. old but cool. I always wanted modern, but I am learning that equals small and expensive. What to do?
The location is great. Right off the N, R, W, or 1, 2, 3, 9 trains. that means I can get anywhere quick. Including work.
Another apartment I looked at was in a decent building that was 8 minutes walking distance from my office. It was a great location, but it was very small. so small that I wasn’t sure if my bed would fit nicely in the bedroom.
I am looking again next week. I will take a half day off one day and see a bunch of apartments. Hopefully I will find something and make final arrangements.
The local bar we like to goto after work has a special deal it does. They publish a months worth of names. One name per day. If your name matches the name they have on a specific day, and you show up you get free drinks for the night. They give you a special cup and you can get beer on tap and well drinks for free.
Friday was Cari night, so our Cari at work had us all come out and drink with her. It was a good time. Jeff, Dave, and Nick meet me out. They are friends from my first tech job. They work across the street, but we don’t always get a chance to get together. It was a nice night. I drank a bit. Recently I have been feeling the effects of alcohol allot quicker than I am used to. I have always been a light weight, but I haven’t been this bad since college.
I cut out relatively early since I had to take the rail road home. I can’t wait till I am in the city.
Saturday night I got together with Rich, and we went over to Alison’s. They never meet before so it was good to get that over with. We went to Chillis for dinner. I like that place, but don’t go that often. Then we went to Jillian’s. Alison beat both rich and I at air hockey. I didn’t mind. At least she beat him! We hung out there for a while. It was fun. Alison likes that place. The only problem is they have a limited amount of games, unless you spend allot more and go bowling, drink, or play pool.
It was an early night. I needed to catch up on my sleep…
Not sure what stress factor in my life caused it, but I woke up last night and could not fall back to sleep. I don’t know when I got up, only that after what felt like ages I checked my clock and it was 3:30AM. It was several hours before I was able to go back to sleep.
I wasn’t nervous or anxious or anything, sleep just would not come to me. ironic since I may need to be up late tonight moving desks.
Once I cannot sleep I just lie in bed and my mind races I mile a minute. Then I can’t fall back to sleep. I don’t know what happened, but eventually I tired out and fell back to bed.
Some people have suggested that I get up and actually do something when I can’t sleep like that. I always thing if I do that I won’t go back to bed at all, and my sleep pattern will be screwed up. I did think about getting up this morning, but I stuck it out and eventually went back to bed.
I just hope it doesn’t happen again this week.
Recently I have been talking about mundane topics. It is what is comming to my mind when I sit down to write. I have read that these topics are not necissarily what makes a good blog. They are probibly correct. I just don’t really care. This is more for me to write about what is going on in my life, for me. If I have a good story or two to tell about what is going on, I will. If not my mundane rambling will continue.
I find it kind of theraputic to write out bits of what happened durring the day like this. It helps me relax. If I repeat topics, it is because I am thinking about htem and they are important to me or I am very opinionated about them.
The wrinkle free dress paints actually live up to their name. Or they do after 1 wash. I followed the directions on how to wash them (a first for me) and they came out perfect. I will see if they survive the 30 washes they claim they will. So far I am a huge fan of the Dockers Pro Style paints. Thanks for the heads up on them Jayson.
I think it is time to get rid of some of my aging (not so gracefully) Khakis.
For the first time in a few weeks I am breathing normal. I switched from Zertec one a day to the 12 hour version. I was finding the once a day pill slowly wearing off as the day went on. By the time I needed to take the next day’s pill I was really not feeling good.
I took the first 12 hour pill last night. I didn’t have the greatest sleep, but I am not sure if it was due to the drugs. I woke up this morning and right after I got up I was breathing normally. I took the second pill before I left work, and so far so good. One problem I think I have been having is that all the windows are open at work. All the dust and pollen from outside is circulating around because we don’t have AC. The AC situation should be partialy resoloved today. We got two portable units that we will be powering up and hopefully cool the office till the main units are fixed. Maybe then I can breath ok!
I have been saying I want to a scuba diving course for the past year. I think I am almost ready to go take a class. I have 3 or so other people who are interested in going to one. I have birthday money to fund the class. Now all I need is a weekend to do it. Once done, I will waste countless amounts of money traveling places to do diving. It will be awesome.
On a positive note, I found my credentials stating that I did dives in St. Thomas when I was down there in 2000. I don’t know if it does anything for the PADI diving course I want to take, but it can’t hurt to have.
