Last Night

More people showed up last night than I thought would. my brother in law’s sister and new family showed up. The new twins (6 weeks old) slept most of the time. They are cute! Morgan was not in a happy mood early on and had nothing to do with me, but she got better after she recovered from her nap. Then she was very playful. That kid is too cute for her own good.

I hitched a ride home with my brother in laws sister and husband. They live a few (like 20) blocks from me so it was on the way. I think all in all I had a good night. I have a ton of take home desert!!!

The Holiday’s

I am off to my parents for the holiday’s. Not a big observer of anything religious, but I go to see the family. This will be a small gathering. I will get to see my parents, Carrie and Morgan. not even sure if Mike will be there.

it is just “bla” out today. no other word for it. I have to go soon to look for some flowers or something to bring my mom. I feel so comfortable right now sitting here in the AC right out of the shower dressed to go and feeling great. Unfortunately I foresee a hot sticky trip on the subway ahead of me. it is not hot out, but it is humid enough for me to want the AC to get rid of the mugginess.

Crap Desktop Upgrades

I am going to my sisters place in a bit to take their 5-6 year old P-III 700 and upgrade them to a 3 year old P-4 1.5 or so. Only for my sister would I waste time on upgrading them from really old crap, to just crap. They don’t want to spend the cash on a new machine and they think this will do what they need. I don’t want to argue with them, but if it was anyone else I would not be doing this. So much crap can go wrong with an upgrade like this. lets just hope for none of them to happen.

On the plus side I get to see morgan!

Cari’s New Place

We went to check out Cari’s new pad. it is down in little italy. it is a nice place. Not my taste but she got a deal and can do allot with it. I will stick to the lazy living that I currently have, but of course will go hang out there due to its killer location.

We went for desert at a restaurant on Mulberry street. it was good. I had chocolate cake and a cappuccino. Since I think it is bitter normally I put like 4 sugars in it. Then it tastes great. The problem is we had desert around 9PM tonight. I am still wired from it and probably wont sleep right tonight. Not that I slept right last night and I didn’t have a coffee then!

I am going to lie down even though I know I wont fall asleep right away. I have to try! More tomorrow!

Computer Buying For Novices

I had to explain computer purchasing concepts to my brother in law. he doesn’t understand why he cannot buy a $299 computer and be happy with it. I tried (not sure if I succeeded) in explaining that it is low end crap, and that it will be easily outdated in 3-5 years. Since they want to (plan to) keep the computer that long, they should not buy the bottom of the barrel. I didn’t mention but felt like I should mention it, that I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy to buy a $299 computer so I would not let my family buy that stuff. The only exception of the rule mentioned above is Gus. Since he seems to think he can run the universe on his old P-2 300mhz, I would recommend a 5 year old used Dell off of ebay for him:)

Never A Good Reason To Visit The CCU

So I am going to be light hearted about the following post. I am not insensitive, but that is the way I am. I started the day with a wonderful 45 minute commute to work. That would have been ok if I commuted from my old apartment. Since it normally takes me 20 minutes to get to the office I was kind of pissed off. Turns out the trains were all messed up so they were really crowded and slow moving. That adds for lots of fun.

I get to work and get a voice mail from my sister to call her right away. I was sort of busy and didn’t really call her right back. I then get a call from my mom on my cell. Now I know something is wrong. My mom would never call me at work at 10AM. Turns out my dad had some chest pain and was in the ER. Granted he works like 60 seconds from the ER, and spends his mornings there, it wasn’t he was working in the ER. it was he was there with a problem. Turns out he had a blockage in his heart and needed to have a stint put in. Now if you were calling to tell someone about a problem like that you would start the conversation off with just that. This is the issue. Not my mom. She had to explain she was calling me because she called my sister also. That went on for a bit until I learned of the issue. Needless to say I was a bit worried. My dad is not exactly in the best shape. This was the second time in 6 years that he had a blockage that needed stinting. So all the worst case scenarios go through your head. Turns out he is fine, or as fine as someone who just had a plastic thing put in his heart can be.

I am relieved to know he will be fine in the short term, but concerned along with the rest of my family that he is not taking care of himself. Everyone else is either yelled at him, or said they will decide what he can and cannot eat. Everyone doesn’t understand why I wont step in either. My opinion boils down to two pieces of information. You cannot teach an old dog new tricks, and no one can change without wanting to change. If my dad wants to change his diet he has to say he wants to, and make an effort to. You cannot force him to. That brings me to the realization that although he wont die tomorrow, I have allot less time with him than I used to.

I am either in denial about the whole situation or I am handling it rather well. Not sure which one yet. I went up the hospital tonight to see him. That was a bigger feat than I originally thought since the subway was still messed up. The snow and wind didn’t help either. Once I got there he seemed to be in good shape. he sounded fine, and looked ok. I guess we have to wait and see how he handles himself once he gets out.

Morgan’s Birthday Party

Today was Morgan’s birthday party. She seemed to have fun, and so did her friends. I think the only thing she didn’t like was the cake. My dad and I are going to smuggle her some blackout cake the next time we see her. The white frosting didn’t make her happy! I actually didn’t have to wait long for the subway on the way to Queens today so I made the entire trip in like 40 minutes. That included about 5 minutes of getting lost since the roads in Forrest Hills are not numbered like they should be. The return trip however took allot longer since I ended up having to wait for the 6 train for like 15 minutes.

I watched TV, did some work, and cleaned my apartment a little during the rest of the day.

TV and Not Much More

I did some work, watched TV, etc. today. I went to the bank to deposit my Tivo rebate that I finally got. I hit Best-buy. I got Angel Season 5 while I was there. I liked that show and never got to see the second half of that season so I am eager to watch it.

Right after I got home jayson called and needed my help because he hurt his back helping danny move. I met him by Petco. We ended up grabbing food at burger heaven. Well I ate and he drank. I also brought him Alien Vs. Preditor. I still have not watched that dvd, but I saw the movie already so I am not in any rush.

I felt bad that I couldn’t help danny today. I was originally going to have electrical work done in the office, but then I got sick. So lifting would be bad for me today.

I also got a card for Morgan. Her birthday gift is already on the way. I still wanted something for her on her party day but I will settle for her just getting the package.

Spoke to Sean today. He is happy (as a father of a 4 day old can be). Little Scott is doing well also. Kelly is resting. Sean had some website questions. I think his idea of a baby site is cool. that is what I did for morgan.

Birthday Gifts

My niece’s birthday is next week. I have no idea what to get her. It’s not that she is a girl. It is that she is 2. What do you get a 2 year old? I don’t have any ideas. My sister is no help. She keeps coming up with things that she needs approval on that will be “special”. That was great for a first birthday since Morgan didn’t remember opening gifts. This year is different. I need for her to have something to open on her birthday. My brother in law doesn’t think she needs anything. So he was no help either. So far I will get barbie’s first roller blades (inline skates, excuse me roller blade inc.). My sister also might want me to get a wooden cash register toy. I still have time so hopefully this will get sorted out.

Also this month I need to get a gift for my cousin Merric. he is turning 11 or something. Man I am getting old. I cannot remember how old he will be. Dam family that I care about and have to get gifts for:)

Saturday

Today I went to my dad’s to get my suit. he then dropped me at Rich’s so I could hang out. Rich is right by the subway so it was a snap (in theory) to get home. We went to Pizzeria uno and then walked around Austin street for a while. We then went back to his place and amanda and I got our ass’s wooped by rich in 90’s trivia pursuit.

I got home a little while ago. I cleaned up my apartment. it really needed it. Now I am winding down and writing a bit. Then I will watch the latest episode of MI-5 that I am Tivoing now. Besides the cleaning a nice relaxing day.
