Dinner With The Family

Meet up with Carrie, Morgan, and my dad for dinner at Sante Fe by my sisters house tonight. I didn’t really eat much. I started feeling out of it towards the end of the day. I was not hungry but nibbled on some chicken fingers while everyone ate. I went to see the family more than the food. Morgan still rocks. she is too cute for her own good.

At luch I had to get my watch fixed since I went to a store that couldn’t help me yesterday. Cost me $28 bucks but I could get that money back when I bring in the receipt from the purchase of the watch. I also had a link let out since the watch was a bit tight since I got it. now it is too loose. Go figure?

I had to cut out of the office a little early to meet up with the family. I am spoiled by the 20 minute commute now that I get frustrated with the 45-60 minute trip to Forrest Hills. The funny thing is I know it isn’t a bad trip, but compared to what I am used to it sucks. Of course to see my niece I would do double the trip. She is worth it, but only in small doses. She is allot of energy.

Even with the not feeling good it was a nice visit. My mom heard about the trip and jokingly got upset that I meet up with the family when she was out of town. She is in Florida relaxing with her friends for the week. It seems like retirement is nice!

Dinner With The Family

I hung out most of the day today. In the late afternoon I went over to my sisters and meet up with her mike, and morgan to go over to my parents neighborhood for dinner with the folks. We went to a decent italian restaurant for dinner. We had a good night, I got to see everyone (especially my most favorite only niece). She gave me a drawing (well she was kind of arm twisted into it, she wanted to give it to her nanny. I am not upset since I know my place in her world!) that now decorates my refrigerator door.

After dinner I had an uneventful trip home. A nice end to a decent weekend!

Thanksgiving With The Parents

I spent the day at my parents and their friends house for thanksgiving. My dad for some strange reason decided to sneak into the hospital and get some work done. I took the train to his office and drove with him home. It was easer to do that than take the train to Flushing and meet him there. I hung out at my folks place for a while while my mom got ready. Tried to fix my dad’s computer. That ended in me deciding I am giving him my Mac Mini for a month to see if he likes it. I said I would do that before, but this time I will do it.

We went to my parents best friends house for thanksgiving diner. It is a tradition we have done for as long as I can remember. Tonight was the smallest gathering I can remember. For whatever reason instead of having the 20-35 people for dinner (and about a dozen more who come over for desert) we had a smaller turn out. There was about 12 adults. Small enough that we had a sit down dinner. That was a first also. We normally do a buffet. it was funny that everyone there was commenting how nice it was to not have so many people.

I am not a fan of turkey, but I had some. I also had a few sides. I didn’t go hungry. For desert there wasn’t any chocolate cake (another first) but Jared’s brother baked fresh cookies so I ate those.

I almost fell asleep on the couch from the turkey. Jared did fall asleep on the couch. My dad and David would have if it wasn’t for the Cowboys game.

All in all a nice night with the family, minus my sister, Mike, and Morgan who are in Florida. We spoke for a little bit on the phone but she was getting ready for dinner. I told her to make sure Morgan got me a photo of her and Mickey.

My dad drove me to forest hills so I could catch the subway home. Since we started eating so early I actually got home at a normal time. I was tempted to stay later and watch Swingers with Amy but that would mean I would not have had a ride home. Sorry Amy, but transportation is always first priority. She has gotten me tempted to put my copy of Swingers into the DVD player. Hmm, that is a good idea…

Retirement Party

Today was my mom’s surprise retirement party thrown by her old co-workers. I meet up with Carrie in Penn station and we took the train together. Mike picked us up with Morgan and we drove over to the restaurant it was being held at. It wasn’t really a huge surprise to my mom, but it was a nice party. There were allot of people who turned out. Morgan was in Morgan form. She is funny to watch with so many people.

Because of the party for my mom we were not able to make it to Arielle’s birthday party in Jersey. What is so funny was I was planning on going to Arielle’s party, but when I met my parents for dinner last week they told me about my mom’s party. Like I said it wasn’t a surprise. So my plans to Jersey were canceled. I need to get out there eventually since I haven’t seen my cousins in ages.

The party was started at 1:30 so it wasn’t a late night. I don’t like being out till 10-11 on a Sunday. Work on Monday is hard enough without coming home late the night before and having to get up early the next day.

New Years, Well Sort Of

Yesterday was the start of the Jewish new years. I was planning on going to my parents for it. That was until I woke up with a headache. I normally don’t wake up with a migraine. When I wake up with a headache one of two things will happen. I take a shower and have breakfast and I am fine, or I deteriorate quickly as the day progressed. Monday was a slow deterioration of how I felt. I took some alive near lunch time. it didn’t work. I then took some Zomig. That worked a little but I still didn’t feel myself. I called my parents and told them I was not coming out to them. As much as I feel bad that I missed seeing everyone, I am glad I didn’t make the trip. It wasn’t worth the 45 minute trip to my sisters, for the 30 minute drive to my parents and then the late night repeat of the trip to get home.

One of my greatest fears is being somewhere away from home or another “safe place” and I have a migraine. A bad one where I need to lie down or else I will collapse, but I can’t since I am not near anywhere I can do that! It has happened before, and there here have been several close calls in my life. It is not something I ever wish to live through again. And the fear of it happening gets me err on the side of caution allot. I didn’t goto a baseball game in Baltimore last year because of the exact same reason. Call me chicken, but I won’t play the odds on a 5 hour (or 1 hour for that matter) drive and possibly getting sick along the way.

Disaster Supplies

All the natural disasters going on have gotten me thinking that I need to stock up on emergency supplies. Frozen pizza and soda will not get me through a disaster. I need to get bottled water, and batteries for my mag light to start.

On that note I need to order more fresh direct. I am running out of food. I have to see when I will be around for a delivery.

My mom’s CD ripping task is almost halfway done. I had a long talk about her taste in music but she didn’t seem to budge:) My Dad is sick with a cold this week. My mom called to say she is sick now. I told her I will be very upset if I got sick from being with her yesterday. Lets hope I avoided it.

I blinked and it is 10:30 already. I need to wind this down, so I can (once again) try to get a good night sleep. I haven’t been sleeping well all week.

The Birthday Gift

For my mom’s 60th birthday I got her an iPod. I was going to get her a mini, but with all her current music on CD’s and the music I was going to rip from my collection (still fair use I believe since I own the CD’s) she would have more than what will fit on a mini. the final straw was when I was at the Apple store and saw how small the screen on the mini was. My mom wouldn’t be able to read that thing. So I got her a nice color 20 gig iPod. Plenty of room, and easy to read for her. that was last month. The thing has been sitting locked in my desk at work. Why you may ask? I need her CD’s to make this gift worth while. I finally saw her and she remembered to bring her CD’s with her.

That is a story unto itself. My grandmother is in town so I went to dinner with her, my mom, sister and niece. They are all “interesting” to sit with at dinner. I survived so that is all I need to say. Since I got to see my mom she brought the CD’s.

I am now home beginning the task of ripping all the disks using my trusted iTunes. I setup her an account on my mini and am putting all her music on that machine. My goal is to then sync the new iPod on that account for her. I am seriously planning on giving my parents the mini to use as their computer instead of the dell they have. That is yet another story unto itself that I will go into detail (i hope) later. I figured that was the perfect place to stage all her music. She will never use the computer for listening to it, but I need to store it someplace.

The problem I am running into is that some of her CD’s are not in good shape and have scratches on them. So far 2 disks are not able to import because of this issue. I am going through the stack to see if more will have problems.

The other issue is that some of her taste in music is painful for me to import. Some songs should just not be digitized onto the computer! The joy about importing using iTunes (much different than in the old days when I ripped stuff using music match) is that you can program iTunes to begin importing music at CD insert, and then tell it to eject and make a tone when it is done. All I have to do is every few minutes I have to feed it a new disk. Apple was very smart with that program!

So a ripping I will go. More later…

Beach Friday & Surprise Party

Last Friday I took the day off from work to goto the beach with my family. My parents have been going to the same beach club for over 20 years. When I was younger I would go with them every summer. Now a days they are lucky if I go once a summer. Last week was a special case. My sister had setup a surpise party for my Mom’s 60th birthday (it was that sunday). She had a bunch of family friend visit that day at the beach (my mom knew about that part). What she didn’t realize was that about 50 other people would show up in the early evening while my mom took my niece to the pool. She was totally surprised. The party was fun. There were a bunch of people I didn’t know (no mom, meeting someone once a decade and expecting me to remember who they are does not constitute knowing someone), a whole bunch of friends I knew and some family I haven’t seen in a while.

It was a good night. the day at the beach was rough. it was very hot, there were 5 kids there under 3, and I was getting a head ache. I was able to take a nap, so I felt better for the party! I was amazed at the stuff my sister cooked for this thing.

Birthday, Days

Yesterday was my brother in laws birthday, and today is my Dad’s. We are going out to dinner to celebrate. Not sure when, not sure where, but we are going. Not much else planned for this lazy sunday. I am just trying to get every bit of rest in before the crazy week looks like will happen next week. I need to work nights 12-4AM for a project, so I will have my sleep habits all screwed up.

I am sitting here planning on writing, and now that I am actually taking time to write I don’t know what to write about:( I have a list of stuff I want to write about, but nothing that I seem in the mood for. Weird. Maybe something will come to me later!

Dinner With The Folks And Morgan

My parents came into the city (pigs must be flying) to have dinner with me. They have Morgan for the week while my sister is on vacation. Her and Mike needed to get some alone time. My parents are both tired from dealing with a 2 year old, but I think they are loving having her the week. Besides being cranky from napping too late, “the girl” as she refers to herself was doing great. That kid always cracks me up. We ordered in because a certain little girl would probably not make people happy at a restaurant if we went out. Sometimes you just don’t take little kids to public places.

I had a good time, but too short a night. My dad was happy that the trip into manhattan wasn’t that long. I told him no traffic does that for you! I got points for my place being cleaner than my sisters. of course I don’t have a 2 year old. But on the other hand I don’t have a nanny that cleans up after said 2 year old, so I think I come out ahead if we were keeping score! My mom was surprised that my place was neater. My dad wasn’t. I was just glad they didn’t come over on friday, since I usually clean on Saturday’s.

Everything is now cleaned up after everyone left. For a 2 year old, Morgan can make a mess. I am off to bed soon, hopefully. I need to get back onto a work sleep schedule.
