The Daily Show

Tonight I went to a taping of the Daily Show With John Stewart. Jayson, Scott, Nick, and I braved the freezing cold and rain for about 3 hours to see the taping. John Stewart is really funny and I love the Daily Show so I jumped at the chance to go when Jayson said he got tickets. It was allot of waiting for about 45 minutes of watching, but I wouldn’t have missed it.

In order to make it there in time to stand in line I had to do a few conference calls from Jayson’s office in the afternoon. That was a bit cramped but I was able to get all the work I needed done and still make the taping so things worked out.

Scotch And Appetizers

Today I headed over to Pound & Pence Pub to meet up with my friend Kristen. I hadn’t seen Kristen in over a year and it was good to get together and catch up. We relaxed out of the freezing cold over an assortment of Scotch’s and some appitizers. It was a fun night. It wasn’t a very late night since we both had work the next day. I need to make more of an effort to stay in contact with friends.

On the work front things were busy today, and looks to be hectic the rest of the week.

Plans For The Week

I was so wiped out from working today I didn’t do anything after work. I am hopefully going to get to bed early. I am kind of happy to have a night to relax. I have plans almost every other night this week. Tomorrow, I have plans with an old friend I haven’t seen in ages. Wednesday, a bunch of friends are going to see a taping of the Daily Show. Thursday I have more plans. I think something is going on Friday and Saturday but I can’t recall. I am usually doing something a few times a week, but 6 days in a row is a bit uncommon. I usually like to throw a day to relax in there somewhere. Oh well.

Monday Back in The Grind

Today was a semi typical day at work. I am kind of thankful for that since it was the first day back of a full work week. I have to get used to a full work week again! I endured around 6 hours of meetings, several issues and some minor excitement. Nothing too crazy, nor anything I can or will discuss on a public blog. I was just busy. It is funny being busy and almost never getting up from your desk except to pace while on the phone.

Today was a work from home day. That meant besides the 15 minutes I took to run across the street to get stuff to make lunch I was at my desk working. The only other real times I got up was when I was on a conference call hear or there and decided to pace. I don’t know why but I like to pace or walk around when on the phone. I have been doing it for as long as I can remember. In my apartment it is like doing laps.

The Long Lingering Vacation is Over

For me most of the month of December was nice short 3 day weeks. Unfortnatly the last one of those is over in a few hours. Tomorrow starts the normal grind of a 5 day work week. I am winding down the week and getting ready for the week, but I am a little sad that the holiday is over.

Thankfully I felt OK today. I went to bed early last night since I started getting a migraine and then was forced to lie down. That is never fun, but thankfully sleeping it off helped. That left me today feeling normal.

On my last day off I spent most of the day cleaning up the clutter around my apartment. It is amazing how after only 2 or 3 days the place can become really messy. I also continued (hopefully concluded) my early spring cleaning. I got rid of two large garbage bags of stuff so hopefully things will remain neat and tidy. I did the laundry, and got a bunch of online shopping done to bang through my task list. Now all I need to do is start banging through my work tasks tomorrow in between 6 and a half hours of meetings.

On the plus side the last few nights have been decent night sleeps. That is a change for me so I was happy. Lets hope tonight is good as well. Sunday nights tend not to be. I am helping the sleep along with a little Johnny Walker Blue over some ice as I sit here and write. Hopefully my writing tonight is as smooth as this drink!

Cooking Accessories

I spent the afternoon today shopping. I first headed over to macys to look for some stuff. I wasn’t able to find everything I was looking for but was able to pick up a few things. I then headed over to Bed Bath & Beyond to search for cooking gear. I have been looking online for a while, getting advise from friends (thanks Sean & Brian), and speaking to my dad. I ended up buying a few key items. It was an expensive day, but I finally broke down and got what I needed. As much as I can grill lots of stuff on my George Forman, I needed other things as well. I ended up calling my dad while I was at the store and he walked me through most of what I needed just to be sure I didn’t mess anything up.

With the 7 train not working due to construction I ended up taking a cab home. Overall an eventful and expensive day.

A New Year

When the new year is upon us I know everyone likes to recap the previous year, and talk about hopes and dreams that are in store for the new year. For 2008 I will say it was a mixed year.

Professionally it started off at a low. I was unhappy at my job, then switched to another job I wasn't happy at. Towards the end of the year things got allot better with another sudden move. Hopefully my job switching is over for a while and I can settle down for a while again. I closed the year on a high note, and fingers crossed 2009 will stay that way.

Socially things were mixed for 2008. I am never one to have a ton of friends I regularly hang out with. I always gravitate towards quality over quantity. Through 2007 & 2008 I have been luck to find both. That was a plus side of the year, on the not so plus side was my interesting medical issues from Oct, and a lackluster year of dating. I don't like to talk about dating publicly on this site, but I am out there and I do mention it periodically. On the dating front I will say 2008 was lackluster. Things were improving slightly towards the end of the year but that was because I was putting more effort into it. I will endeavor to continue that into the new year.

2009

New Years Day. A day I typically stay in. I like doing my spring cleaning (if you want to call it that) on 1/1. I backed up my personal documents to a DVD that I will store away for safe keeping. I also backed up my email from my mail server.

I know very geeky but I find that the new year is a perfect time to back stuff up and clean up the clutter. I got rid of a ton crap today and organized a closet. I also finally went back and shredded about 8 years worth of old receipts I had in a huge folder. I stopped keeping paper receipts a while a go since I have good electronic records of stuff. The only problem was I had 8 years worth of built up paper that I didn’t want to just throw out since they had lots of personal data on them. I recently got a good paper shredder so I took my cleaning day to spend about an hour (that is all it took) to shred all the receipts. The one big folder turned into 2 garbage bags of confetti. I love the shredder I have. It does a cross-weave so the paper is totally useless to anyone going through garbage.

So todays work isn’t so glamorous but it is something that I know I always need to do. I still have some other clean up tasks to complete around my apartment. I will hopefully tackle them over the weekend. The email backups are taking a lot longer than I thought so that is still ongoing. I think I am about 75% done (I hope).
