Firefox Vs. Mozilla Vs. I.E.

I downloaded Mozilla’s Firefox 0.91 last night for my Mac. To me it didn’t seem that much different from Mozilla 1.7. Not sure what advanced features they were touting but it just looked like a stand alone version of Mozilla to me. It had better import / export of bookmarks. Other than that, not sure what the big deal is. I will probably start using it, but only because I don’t need or want the newsreader or email client that comes with mozilla.

I find it funny that the government is telling people that Mozilla is more secure than IE. It probably isn’t. it is just less used, so less people using something equals less people trying to exploit it. I still think mozilla is a better browser. We have been pushing mozilla as a browser in my company for over a year. We love it. This past attack on IE reinforces my decision to go with Mozilla. Like I said it probably is not more secure, but in reality it will be attacked less, since fewer people use it. I think that theory is holding up.

A Week And Two Days

I have a week and 2 days to go until I move. Of course I am an adult and don’t need to count down to this sort of thing. It is really a week and a day if I don’t count today!!!

I didn’t get my monthly rail road ticket since I am moving. I just bought a weekly. They are more expensive per ride than a monthly. Thankfully I am only getting a weekly this week and maybe a few daily’s next week. I already have my stand-alone unlimited ride metro card for the month.

Things in my old place are in limbo. I have needed to buy groceries for almost a month but I don’t want to buy anything for my new place. I have been ordering out so I can eat. My freezer is almost empty. My fridge is almost empty. I will run out of some critical items a bit early, so I may need to do a mini shopping.

June Photo Album Uploaded

I have uploaded my June camera phone pictures to my photo website. Not everything I photograph gets sent to my MOB, so this is everything I shot in June. I have been doing a monthly page since I got my Treo 600. Lots of apartment pictures and pieces of hardware this month. Also got our construction in kingston on “film”

The misc photos of computer hardware were taken because I am moving and I wanted photos of everything I might want to ebay. Turns out most of the stuff I have is not worth selling. The $20-50 a pop for the stuff is not worth the effort. I will just hold onto most of it since I may end up needing it in the future. Never know what I want to build.

Also some great shots of Morgan. She is so cute, but I am biased since I am her uncle.

HBH-65 Update

The headset is good so far. The phone I am using with it (Sony Ericsson T610) right now sucks. You don’t really know how good or bad a phone is until you use another one in the exact same places and get totally different results. This time I used the T610 on my trip up from NYC to Kingston. On the train my Treo normally backs out allot, so did my verizon phone. In the cab from the train station I am usually able to make calls, and sometimes have spotty service. With the T610 I had almost no coverage at all on the entire trip. In the cab from the train I had no signal until I was 5 minutes from the office, and our office has a T-Mobile tower in the same building complex.

The headset worked well when I had good cell signal. No complaints from people about voice quality. I probably wont use the headset that much since the phone sucks. I am sticking with my Treo 600 for now. It actually gets a signal. Palmone, please put bluetooth on the Treo!!!

The Holiday Weekend, A Recap

I did what I like to normally do on a holiday weekend. I did nothing special. It is melodramatic to some extent I guess. I just don’t like doing huge crazy plans that involve lots of travel on the holidays. Maybe it is because in 1999 & 2000 I was on a plane or somewhere other than home on every major holiday.

Saturday I did some sleeping. I was still out of whack from my Thursday to friday overnight. After I got that out of my system I went to the city to help Jayson and Gretchen move into their new place. Man I haven’t done manual labour like that in a while. I wont understand why I help all my friends move, but I pay for movers!!! I just dont want to deal I guess. The commute to the city wasn’t so bad. I drove to my sisters place and parked, then took the subway to the city. Jayson’s dad drove me back to my car later when we were done. I slept well that night.

Sunday I did some errands. I went to the mall, best buy, and staples. I got a new mouse to replace my logitech wireless optical that had the rubber surfaces coming off of it. I got a Microsoft wireless optical this time. it was cheap. I also got packing tape and some box’s for my move.

Rich and Amanda came over and I cooked up the last of my Fresh Direct steaks and some sword fish. We then hung out on my terrace and watched the fireworks. You could see everything all the way to manhattan. We were even able to see the display going off by the seaport. it was really nice.

Today I packed, and did some work. I had allot of issues that pilled up since I was in kingston thursday and friday. Now it is off to work tomorrow.

The Move Is Set

I have booked my movers. I have reserved the date to move in both buildings (old and new). now all I have to do is pack. I haven’t done anything yet. I will try and start this weekend. Moving is expensive. It will be costly to pay people to do it for me, but I think I am passed the moving your self phase.

I have my cable install date already. I have my phone in my old place ready to be canceled. the only thing I haven’t done is cancel my cable at my current place. Then it is address move request forms.

I cannot wait to do this. I think this move will be good. I am looking forward to my new place. I hope I really do appreciate the shorter commute now.

This weekend I will help Jayson move into his new place. he is currently in Georgia en route to NYC. He should be here by Saturday morning.

I am currently en route to kingston. Kai and I are doing a network upgrade tonight. I tried to sleep in, but couldn’t. I was up by 9AM today. I caught a much earlier train than I was planning.

Looks like Kai couldn’t sleep either. he called and is on his way to the office now also. he will beat me in.

I just hope I am not tired later tonight when we start the work. I am not feeling 100% right now, but I am not hurting in a bad way either. My problem is when I goto kingston I tend to get migraines. Not sure if it is the travel or what but most of the trips I end up needing migraine medication. I hope today is the exception to that rule.

Sony Ericsson HBH-65

I have had the SE HBH-10, the HBH-30, and now the HBH-65. Pretty much all three generations of SE’s bluetooth headsets. I have also had the Motorola gen 1 headset. The first couple of generations of the SE’s needed work. So far this new headset seems ok.

I made several calls with it paired to my SE T610. All were loud and mostly clear. Miguel said that he heard background hum when I called, but he could hear me clearly. Everyone else had no complaints about it.

making calls was easy. When the phone was paired to the headset it just switched over to the headset when dialing a call.

Recieving calls has been a bit trickier. I am still working on getting the headset to answer the call without having to transfer the call from the phone to the headset.

The headset fits nice in my ear. It is really small. I thought it would be bigger, but I am not upset by it being so small. I just hope I don’t break it like I did my motorola.

I am going to try and use it allot in the next 2 days while I am in Kingston. Hopefully I will iron out all the kinks with it.
