Extension Mobility

With Cisco Call Manager we can do something called extension mobility. it allows you to goto any phone in the office and log in with your phone extension. Our call center software Zeacom Smartconnect has always had problems with extension mobility. Once we use it the extension would not work with the software until the system was rebooted. We put a patch on the system last Tuesday that was supposed to fix the problem. Turns out that it didn’t. Some extensions work, and others do not. it is driving Kai and I crazy.

It turns out that Cisco uses the MAC address of the device you are logging into to track the profiles for extension mobility. That doesn’t work with how Zeacom does things. They like netbios. We have had issues with Smartconnect and netbios before when we wanted to put devices on networks other than the network where the smartconnect server resides. Zeacom is working on yet another patch to get the two system to gel and work together. I am still eagerly awaiting extension mobility. I have been waiting since September 2003. Granted EM will work with the cisco phones, but I just cannot use the call center software once I use it. it becomes a real pain in the ass.

People

On a good day I am not a huge people person. If you know me you know what I am talking about. I don’t like large crowds. The problem is that I take mass transportation to go almost everywhere. I am currently on Amtrak coming back from my 2 days in Kingston. Well travel can be fun, and it can suck. It usually sucks more than it is fun. Why you may be asking I think that. Well the answer is people.

Not everyone sucks, I am not that much of a cynic. But lets take the people sitting by me on the train today. We got the loud guy with his friend sitting behind me. He is one of those guys who has to talk on a cell phone with his outside voice. he is retarded into thinking that if you have a bad cell signal yelling will make people understand you. When off the phone him and his friend just wont shut up and are really load.

Up one row from me I have teenage / college girl who won’t get off the cell phone. Thankfully it looks like she has bad cell service since she is spending half the time trying to make a call.

Then there is Jr HS girl in front of me that keeps getting up out of the seat and going someplace and then returning. Thankfully the seat has not yet hit my powerbook when she is getting up all the time.

Not all is bad. Others who are quiet and trying to peacefully spend the time are the 2 college guys on the other side of the isle from me, and the guy sitting next to me. We are all suffering in silence together.

Why is it people have no understanding that anything they do affects the people around them?

Not all is bad when traveling. On the way up yesterday I didn’t have much of a problem. The big deal is when goes bad, it goes bad in a big way!

I spoke too soon. Cell phone talking college girl just moved into the seat across from me since the two other guys got off at the last stop. Lets hope her service sucks the rest of the way back to NYC.

I am a hypocrite right now since I had a problem at work and Keith just called me. I need to call him back. But at least I had a legitimate reason to use the phone.

It is weird that I talk about this topic every time I am on the train home from kingston.

The Big Three O.

My birthday is next week. I turn 30. Not exactly a super happy birthday for me. I feel like I am getting old. You know why? Because I am getting old.

I am more worried about the fact that my sister called me last night wanting to know my work address. She is like I don’t have it, what is it? Now I don’t believe in coincidence’s. My birthday, plus her asking about my address at work = she is going to send something to work. I am all for celebrating my birthday, but in a low key way. Now I am worried.

The next weird thing is my brother in law called today asking if I wanted to go out for dinner tonight with them. that is also curious. No complaints about hanging with them, but they don’t exactly go out all the time since they have a 1 year old. I will see what time I get home from the train station and I will decide if I will go to eat with them.

The other down side of this birthday is that I will be the first of my friends to turn 30. In college I was the first of my friends in my year that turned 21. That was a good birthday. This isn’t so good because until everyone else turns 30 I will get the I am an old guy jokes:)

Other than that, I am looking forward to my B Day. I always do. It is right before St. Patrick’s day, and right after the eyes (not spelling it correctly) of march. I think it is like a 3 day holiday!
