The W Sisters and The Story of A’s 2nd Birthday Cake We Don’t Really Talk About

As of me writing this post in late August M and I were talking about planning out T’s birthday. Inevitably the conversation we talked birthdays leads to birthday cake. As we were talking about the cake M is planning we were reminiscing on Amelia’s second birthday cake.

M’s Facebook friends might recall that she made a fantastic fandant Paddington Bear themed cake. It was pretty damn awesome. People were commenting that they could not tell one was food and one was a stuffed animal. Needless to say she was very proud of her awesome cake design. That cake was the cake we had for her birthday party with the family around New Year’s. One of M’s brother and family were in town so we had her birthday party when they were around. It was the weekend after A’s birthday. I mentioned that because since all the ladies in my house my wife included love cake M decided to make a smaller cake specifically for Amelia on her actual birthday.

I am not 100% clear on the specifics around the cake making. If I recall I think M ran out of convection or sugar and gave it a go making frosting with regular sugar. It was either that or using regular sugar was an accident. In any event towards the end of the preparations it was clear that using regular sugar was a problem. M warned me about it however we both agreed we have a three and a two-year-old and its cake. They weren’t going to really care. As it turned out they didn’t. They ate that cake up or at least the one slice they got each.

We gave A the cake and had a little ceremony after dinner. Our babysitter was still around since it was early. I believe we want her not to have it. Both of us on the other hand tried it anyway. M had a small slice and I don’t recall if she finished it. I had a smallish, probably regular size slice and I finished it. It was crunchy and it shouldn’t of been. It was also superset.

Overall the cake was pretty bad. That’s why it’s sad for me to say I went to go get a second slice and M had to throw the cake out to prevent me from doing something we both knew I was probably going to regret. Yet another reason why I love my wife. She’s trying to look out for me.

Still Trying to Grasp Amelia is Two Today

It feels like it Teagan was just born so grasping that Amelia turned two today is challenging to me.

It was funny to see Teagan & Amelia help MC bake a cake for Amelia yesterday.  I don’t know what was funnier.  That Amelia picked the yellow cake batter over the chocolate cake batter or that Teagan continued to try to change her mind to chocolate.  I was hoping Teagan would be successful because sometimes you wonder if a two year old really knows what she wants.  Well in this instance Amelia did know, and was insistent on the fact that she wanted the yellow cake box.

All I can say Amelia is I hope the cake is yummy later.  Happy birthday to my little smiley face!

Amelia’s Photo Shoot

Today we took Amelia to a photographer for her 1 year birthday photo shoot and cake smash.  We did the same thing for Teagan last year and we loved the photos.  For Amelia we went to the same photographer (Amanda Saldarelli Photography) we used for Teagan.  We also used Amanda for our holiday cards.  We have been very happy with her photos so we were excited to see what she could do with Amelia.

Going into the photo shoot we had a feeling Amelia would be more challanging.  She has a “slightly” more demanding personality than Teagan.  I didn’t stay for much of the shoot.  We first took some family shots with both girls and then I took Teagan away so Amelia could get some personal time to get her photos.

Teagan and I ended up at a Starbucks nearby.  She was happy since she got a snowman cookie.  I was happy since i got a cappuchino since i hadn’t had coffee at all that day till then.  After a little one on one time with Teagan we headed back to see how Amelia and MC were fairing.  I got back in time to see the cake smash.  Amelia at first was super excited to see cake.  That was until she touched it.  Then it was like we poured nasty goo on her hands because she got very upset.  Teagan on the other hand had a blast at her smash.  So much so that we can proudly say Teagan’s smash photo (one of our personal favorate photo of the shoot) is hanging on Amanda’s studeo wall.

All is not lost however since the first teaser photos of Amelia from the shoot looked fantastic.  We are patiently waiting for more.

The rest of the day was a nice day at home.  The girls slept in the car on the ride home but then wouldn’t take regular naps afterward.  They were tired by the time it was bedtime.  MC & I were also pretty tired too.  I am a huge fan of nap time and I think MC is too.

The Big 30

It was Beata’s birthday yesterday. She turned 30. She had a bunch of friends meet up at Mixx for drinks. I had a good time. It was my first time meeting Beata’s friends, but they all seemed cool. After Mixx a bunch of us headed over to the Delancey Lounge. Apparently Beata’s sister worked there and we got in without waiting on the line. I typically don’t goto clubs like that, and I certainly don’t get to avoid the line so it was a nice change of pace. The first floor was super crowded. We were able to head upstairs and it wasn’t as bad. We found some seats in the back and relaxed for a while. I don’t think anyone was drinking by this point.

We called it a night and I got a ride back to the Canal Street subway station.

My Birthday Weekend

Wow, I need a vacation to recover from this weekend. Last Sunday was my birthday. If you know the calendar at all you would also know that Monday was St. Patrick’s day. With both events so close craziness ensues. I went out every night from Thursday through Monday. Thursday & Friday I went out with people from work. We went to a bar or two and drank. It is always fun to unwind with them.

Saturday I went with Gretchen & Jayson to a Piano Bar. They have been a few times but it was my first time to this one, Sweet Caroline’s. It was fun. I always loved the dueling piano bar in the New York, New York hotel in Las Vegas, and the one in Pat O’Brien’s on Burbon Street. I had a fun time, even though I drank much more than I had planned.

Sunday night my parents took me to the Waterfront Crab House in Long Island City for my birthday diner. It was good. I had king crab legs, and finished off my mom’s crab cakes. It was good food and I had a good time.

Monday I meet up with Douge, Yan, and a few others for a few drinks on St. Patrick’s day. I didn’t stay out too late since I was really tired from the long weekend of being out, but it was fun meeting up for a little while.
