T at The Beach for First Time (Sort of)

Today for the 4th of July we went with my mom to the beach.  T was at the beach once in Florida but she never got out in the sand to play so today was really her first trip to play at the beach.

My mom’s beach club is near the beach club we went to when i was growing up in Atlantic Beach.  We got a late start but once we arrived my mom got a baby pool with an umbrella setup for T.  She had a blast playing around in the pool.  She also tried her hand at eating sand.  She didn’t like it, but that didn’t stop her from trying again, and again.

After the kiddie pool we took her to the ocean and stood her up and let the waves crash into her legs.  she had a blast doing that.  Since M, T, and to some degree I am sensitive to the sun we didn’t stay at the ocean that long.  After that T hung out in pool again, ate, and then we took her for a walk on the boardwalk and she feel asleep for a nap.  After that we headed home.  My mom was nice enough to give us a ride to and from the beach.  it was a nice day.

Brunch With Family

We went to MC’s cousin Brian’s to see her Aunt, Uncle, and several cousins especially two from out of town and their toddler!  We don’t get into Manhattan that often with Teagan so it was nice to get out.  MC’s cousin’s apartment was really nice and they had a great spread from Fresh Direct for brunch.  It was good to see her family.  Some we just saw at our place for brunch but others we haven’t seen in over a year.  it was great to catch up.  It was nice to get Teagan to meet her little cousin.

After brunch we headed right home since there was a chance of rain and Teagan needed to eat and nap.  Thankfully she napped a bit on the way home.

Fathers Day Weekend Sick at My Sisters

This weekend for Fathers day we went to my sister’s to spend time with her family and my parents for Fathers day.  On mothers day we spent the day with MC’s mom on MC’s first mothers day and we did the same with my family for my first Fathers day.  We drove out to Carries on Saturday morning so we could spend the day and then we stayed over so we didn’t have to drive the entire trip both ways in a day.  We also left my dad’s car there since he is staying at my sisters while my mom is away in china.  We ended up driving back with my mom.

Unfortunately I got a migraine shortly after we got there in the early afternoon Saturday.  Even with the heavy duty drugs I really didn’t kick it Saturday.  I woke up still not feeling great Sunday.  Michael had to help me out a bit.  I was glad he was there.  It is very rare for me to get a migraine two days in a row.  I wasn’t happy that i missed a lot of the time hanging out with my family.  Teagan had a great time playing with her cousin’s.  Thankfully i wasn’t lying down the entire time.  I did get to play with the kids a bit on both days but for large chunks of both days i was out of commission.  I was glad it wasn’t worse than it turned out to be.  MC was fantastic picking up the slack when I couldn’t help with Teagan, and my mom and sister were also great.  I am always grateful for my family but on days like that especially so.

T Sitting Up Consistantly

It’s T’s 9 month birthday and she decided to start consistently sitting up.  I say consistently because before today she would sit up every so often.  Today she is doing it often and what seems like deliberately.  It is funny she is doing this on her 9 month birthday because she started rolling over almost exactly on her 6 month birthday after randomly rolling over for a while before then.

The Queens Zoo

We missed going to the Central Park Zoo when we were there a few weeks ago and then we had plans with family and friends for a few weekends. With this free weekend we wanted to give the zoo another try. This time we headed to the queens zoo. It was a fast 20 minutes on one bus and a few blocks walk. It was the perfect day. Teagan was up the entire trip to the zoo and then fell asleep right when we got there. MC and i got to walk around a bit and then walked around Flushing Meadow park. We were about to leave when Teagan woke up so we went back to the petting zoo part of the zoo and MC fed some animals and Teagan just watched intently.

We headed home after that but I started getting a Migraine and MC was tired from being up a long night, so the rest of the day was low key.

T Sitting Up?

She has been sighted sitting up now and again but it is not a regular thing.  Like rolling over when she did it every so often we are waiting to see when she will just start sitting up on her own constantly.

Breakfast in The Park

Today we got up and got bagels (and some scones from the farmers market near austin) and walked with Teagan to a park off askan that is very grassy.  We sat out on a blanket and ate breakfast.  Teagan was tired so she didn’t play very much but it was a gorgeous day out so we were glad to be outside and relaxing.  We grabbed coffe at the french bakery off of Austin st and went home to hang out for the rest of the day.

It was good to get outside and then have the day to play with Teagan.

Apartment Reconfiguration

I knew this day was coming but was delusional that i could put it off indefinitely   Teagan’s play area has grown and displaced my office area.  Today MC and I moved her desk into our bedroom out of our Foyer.  We then moved my computer desk into the Foyer so there is more room in the dining room / office / Teagan’s play area.  It is great that Teagan has more play area, and with MC’s desk in the bedroom I even have somewhere i can work from home when i need to and not have Teagan distracting me.  On the down side I don’t know how cool it will be in the Foyer durring the summer.  I hope its not too hot but we may need to get a fan to circulate air better.

The hardest part of the moving stuff was cleaning the dust we saw when moving one carpet.  Everything fit pretty well in their new locations.  I now just have to remember to walk to they Foyer when I want to goto my computer.  I keep walking to the play area and are disappointed when I realize my computer isn’t there.

The next reconfigurations we need to make is move the step cabinet we have out of the play area before Teagan can craw.  The last thing we need is a piece of furniture that screams climb me to a kid that just learned to move around.

Saturday in Forest Park

Today we decided to take a trip to Forest Park.  We wanted to goto the carousel and check out the park.  After debating the best way to get there (walking or public transit) we ended up taking the bus since the trip was just too far to walk with a 7 month old.

The bus trip was uneventful but we had trouble finding an entrance to the park.  We found a horse trail entrance but we couldn’t take the stroller down it.  There was a nice playground next to the trail that we went to and sat on the grass and played with Teagan.  She also got to go on the swings.  We then asked and got directions to were the carousel was but as we were walking there we realized it was way too far away to walk and it was taking us ever further from home and the bus.  At that point we called it quits and headed back towards Austin St.  We were going to find a lunch spot to hit up but when we got back we realized we were just in time to take Teagan to Gymboree so we went to a class.  Teagan had a blast even though I only got fuzzy photos of it.

After all that excitement Teagan had a 2+ hour nap not at her regular time.  She was wiped out.  It was a great day!

We Have Ourselves a Red Head (For Now)

On Sunday we went to the Doctor for Teagan.  MC was concerned about some dry skin on her face.  In the end Teagan is fine after some over the counter lotions, but while we were there the doctor confirmed that we have a red head on our hands!  A few people have commented about her hair having a red tint to it.  I haven’t seen it, but she doesn’t have much hair yet so we were waiting for it to come in more to be sure.  The doctor took one look at her and was like yup, she will have red hair.  Its a totally unimportant piece of information but I wanted to know.  Turns out MC was a red head as a kid.  How much red she had is open for debate.  It was either much redder than Teagan or it was just a little bit.  Either way as MC got older it got darker and she has brown hair now.  We are not sure if Teagan will have the same thing happen.  I kind of hope it doesn’t go away.  It is distinctive being the rarest hair type, even though apparently people in Australia and the UK look down on people with red hair.

The doctor also thinks that she will have hazel eyes.  He saw some brown and some blue when checking her out so his prediction is hazel.  We will wait to see on if that turns out to be true.  I am just hopeful she has good vision especially since I don’t.  So far she is an alert and active baby and that’s whats important.
